If you're looking for something to do with the kids Friday night, come out the annual Children's Day Parade and festival in Kingston. This is the 40th anniversary of the event.  Each year there has been a specific theme for the parade, but this year, in honor of the anniversary, participants can pick any one of the 39 themes highlighted in the past. The parade will begin at 6:15 in the evening at Broadway and Andrews Street- next to Kingston High School.  It will proceed up Broadway to Albany Avenue then to Clinton Avenue and will end at the Kingston Plaza. The festival will be held at the plaza.  There will be healthy snacks, live music from The Big Smoothies, and amusements from Coleman Brothers Carnival. I have never done that before. Getting my first listing was amazing.  I came across an old expired MLS listing and noticed that it was not active for more than 3 months. I saw the owner's last name on the list and thought I should contact him. I liked his little cottage in Kingston, NY which was still not sold. I only had the owner's last name and searched for his phone number the old fashion way... via the good old white pages. Thank God his last name was not very common, so there were like only 2 listed phone numbers. I knew it was him !So without hesitant I picked up the phone and started dialing,it rang and rang and finally, voicemail  ! I just left him a brief message. 1 day went by, no callback, 2 days, nothing.....almost 1 1/2 weeks later, I got a phone call ...it was him.  We ch...

Recently the parking garage in uptown Kingston partially collapsed. Since the collapse, the garage has remained closed which in effect closed off 317 parking spots in a city that already has a parking problem. It was not uncommon for me to spend time driving around looking for a parking spot when I was trying  to get to the motor vehicle department, a closing, or the hairdresser. Back several years ago The Teicher Group had planned a major development for the area which would have brought more foot traffic to the area as well as improvement to the parking situation; however 4 years later the project did not get off the ground due to various opposition. Today in the Daily Freeman  government officials outline how they intend to deal with the parking issue.    Jennifer Fivelsdal - JFIVE H...

This hair Salon is owned and operated by Ella DeWitt in Uptown Kingston, close to many restaurants and for those who are interested in history you can take a walking tour.  The area has many historic sites and was the first capital of New York.  Ella has a smile that is very welcoming and her establishment provides services for all ethnic groups.  Ella is also a cosmetology instructor, and is a technician for a hair product company so you are in good hands. Another service that Ella provides is styling the wigs for the mannequins. If you have seen a mannequin with a well styled hairdo  you might have been looking at Ella's work. She is also very involved with the community, and inside her place of business you will find a bulletin board where events happening in the community are poste...

This building was built in 1857 and was the home of the Wiltwyck Fire Station.  In 1981 it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In 1982 this building became the Volunteer Firemen's Hall and Museum.  This is a meeting place for volunteer firemen in the area and the purpose of the museum is to preserve fire related equipment and paperwork.  In the museum can be viewed a parlor with ornate furniture from the 1800's as well as a player piano which was a common piece of furniture in fire house parlours.  Other items found here are:documents, badges from conventions, working fire alarms and carriages. The unique building is located in the Stockade district of historic Kingston. Tours are available from April to October Other historic Kingston blogs: Historic Roundout    ...

A national study confirmed what local residents and tourists already know about Ulster County--there is a thriving community of arts and culture. The Kingston, New York area was named as the 5th best place for artists in the entire US according to Business Week and Sperling's Best Places. The ranking was given based on a high number of artists per capita and the cultural resources available in the community. The professional artist category included visual artists (sculptors, painters, designers), writers, screenwriters, dancers, musicians and actors. To gauge cultural resources, the study considered the number and size of local area resources such as museums, philharmonic orchestras, dance companies, theater troupes, library resources, and college arts programs. The study named Los Ang...

Various shops and office buildings   The Roundout is now a vibrant community where, especially on the weekend, you will find people walking around visiting shops and sampling the varied cuisine at the many new restaurants. This was once a separate village but in 1872 became part of Kingston which as you might know was the first capital of New York. This area was well suited for commerce because of the location; situated near the Roundout Creek and Hudson River.  This was a thriving community.  Economic growth went hand in hand with access to the most popular mode of transportation at the time, shipping. From this area was shipped cement, bricks, and bluestone items necessary for building in areas such as New York City. The Mansion ...
