Take a ride on the rail For sometime now I have wanted to get a shot of these abandon rail cars, I even got close once but the battery in my camera was dead. So I was delighted when my husband came home with this shot recently. Location just outside Kingston NY

Readers of my blog know how much I love the Hudson River and the bridges over the river.  This bridge is the Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge which connects Dutchess and Ulster Counties. Early this afternoon I heard about a plane crash which occurred to the left of this bridge.  When you hear the news you are always sad, but it is worst when you actually know the person in the crash, today was such a day.

Today I was taking a listing and the cat of the house checked me out fully, even going so far as looking in my bag. When we got to the point where documents were being signed he jumped up on a folder and looked me square in the eyes as if to say "Now where do I sign? I am a member of this family.

I'll bet this headline grabbed your attention. What could be so priceless at Walmart? How about the view?  I took this shot a couple of years ago from the Walmart parking lot in Kingston, NY. This a a photo I personally like. It reminded me so much of a lovely landscape watercolor.  I could see Thomas Cole of the Hudson River School of painting sitting down and painting a watercolor of the snow-clad Catskill Mountains. So, next time you are at Walmart you might just see something priceless.   Looking for a home in Kingston?  The map below are of homes for sale in Kingston   Jennifer Fivelsdal - JFIVE HOMES REALTY LLC - 845-758-6842- jennifer@jfivehomes.com  www.jfivehomes.com  or www.midhudsonhomevalue.com   Flickr | Facebook | Linked-in |Twitter |subscribe to Blog    Copyright © by Je...

Whether looking for a new home, a second home, weekender, country retreat..... start your search for Ulster County Real Estate here! The Historic City of Kingston:  Approximately 90 minutes north of NYC, just off the New York State Thruway Exit 19, the historic City of Kingston is situated along the banks of the Rondout Creek where it enters the scenic Hudson River. The city goes back to the early 1600’s when the first “trading post” was built by the early Dutch settlers, and was the first Capital of NY until the Burning of Kingston in 1777 during the Revolutionary war. Its early history includes the stockade area where limestone and rubble stone Dutch built homes can still be found today.  The first meeting of the senate took place in what is now named “The Senate House” located in Upt...

These photos were taken in the late fall, at the Trolley Museum of New York located in the Roundout area of Kingston New York. This museum is located in the old Ulster and  Delaware railroad yard.  There are about 30 trolleys, the oldest dating back to 1907.  The Trolley Museum  covers the history of the railroad in the Hudson Valley.  Rail travel was once a very important part of the transportation system in small communities. Then came the car and this system which connected many communities by train was abandoned.  While out and about in my real estate activities  I sometimes run into these abandoned tracks.  Some have now been turned into rail trails for leisure walking and biking. The fall foliage tain which runs along the Esopus Creek is  a great example of some of these old t...

Wordless Wednesday-Musician at the Senate House in Uptown Kingston NY Today after a business meeting in Uptown Kingston I was walking by the historic Senate House when I heard beautiful folk music.  I decided to stop for a few minutes, and of course I wanted to know their reason for being there.  I was told this is something they do weekly on Wednesdays between 12:00-1:00 PM.  I actually saw someone sitting nearby having lunch and enjoying the music. These are the little moments in a day that can lift the spirits.  So if you are ever around Uptown Kingston on a Wednesday stop by the Senate House and take in the music.    If the weather is bad you can find the group performing in the Senate House Visitor's center.                                              SENATE HOUSE PHOTO   Jennifer...

Today when I was Uptown Kingston waiting to sign some paperwork I could not resist taking a shot of such a glorious spring day.  Actually at almost 90 degrees it felt more like the middle of the summer. In this area you can find many old homes, this is considered a historic district.  As a matter of fact the site of the first meeting of the New York  State Assembly was just down the street.  They met in Bogardus Tavern. On the Hudson River you do see many sites, once such site is the Roundout(Kingston) Lighthouse which sits at the mouth of the Roundout Creek where it connects to the river. This lighthouse is open for tour from May to October, and access is via boats. When you are through with the tour, you might want to stop at the Roundout where you will find a maritime museum, shops and many fine restaurants.  For example you can pull right up to the Steele  Restaurant in your boat. I know it is cold right now but this is a great time to start planning summer activities. I took a fall foliage tour on a train last week and now I want to take a Hudson River fall foliage Cruise because the views along the Hudson River is amazing. When I  checked out the Hudson River Cruises, I found out there is only 3 opportunities remaining. October 12th   2:30-4:00 PM October 15th  11:30 -1:30 PM October 19th  2:30-4:30 PM The Hudson River fall foliage cruise is a two hour tour that is narrated.  Besides the beautiful scenery you will also pass many historical sites.  So if you are thinking of a fun way to spend a fall day this is certainly an interesting activity.   Jennifer Fivelsdal- Associate Broker- Keller Williams Realty Team - 845-758-6842- jennifer@jfivehomes.com  and www.jfivehomes.com

I love this shot of Kingston NY.  It shows Kingston's unique spot geographically and in turn why it's great to own a home here.  You can see that Kingston is basically where the Hudson River, the Rondout Creek and the Catskils all meet.  You can also see where Kingston New York homes are most densely positioned along the Broadway corridor in Midtown.  You can get the best of just about everything within Kingston or a short distance from it--whether it's boating on the Hudson River, fishing in the Rondout Creek or skiing in the Catskills.  You can catch gorgeous views of the Ashokan Resevoir (also pictured here).
