Yesterday, I had a missed call from an area code I recognized as the Atlanta area.  I called back and the person at the other end was surprised and said, "Yes, I heard you're the person to ask about Flooring questions."       I was surprised (and curious), so I listened.  She said that she found my blog and was intrigued not only because I explained things well (in a straight forward/easy to understand way), but also because I was a woman and she thought that was cool given that all the people she had previously spoken to about flooring were male.   She was trying to figure out what type of hardwood to put over concrete and came across my blog post.  She had been told by a contractor that she knew that you could put solid hardwood and glue it directly over concrete.  Her gut told her th... 06/01/2012

This morning I received an interesting call from a nice homeowner in California.  Unfortunately, she is having some problems with new and old floors.  It seems that she had some pickled oak floors in some areas of the home and was adding new hardwood to match and then refinish all the areas so that thye matched.  She interviewed several contractors and asked them about replacing some sections and starting from scratch vs. adding new and blending it in.  They opted for blending in, and I will say that on the surface, this probably was probably the right thing to do, and probably what I would have advised as well. I was lucky enough for my husband to surprise me with a great meal at The Bedford Post Inn for our anniversary. They have 2 restaurants (The Farmhouse and The Barn) and an Inn with 8 rooms and a yoga studio. The grounds are beautiful and rustic with a gravel driveway, arbors, stonework and nice plantings. It reminded me of Napa Valley. The dining room was also quite charming with a fireplace and nice decor. I understand that the fireplace gives nice ambiance, but in May it was too warm to have it on. The menu is not very extensive which is ok with me. I rather have the chef concentrate on a few items and execute them perfectly.
