My inclination is to pull up a deck chair, put my legs up, put a lemonade on the table, and watch with pleasure as the reality of the next monthly economic report plays upon the real estate market, the credit markets and international markets. I expect a fair amount of chatter about how, yes, we really are moving into apparent recovery and, yes, it's a good time to enter this marketplace aggressively.This will not silence the doomsters, of course. For reasons pretty well known, and because of a determined expectation that the markets will turn and slide into another crunch, there are plenty of analysts willing to offer an intimidating pooh-pooh to the good news the markets are likely to bring us on Friday and before. Chocolate Guinness Goodness This rich and luscious dessert came about because I needed a special dessert for a St. Patrick’s Day tasting menu. I was on a mission to use my favorite beer, Guinness, something I consider to be one of Ireland’s gifts to the world. As the 17th of March drew closer, I looked for inspiration at my favorite Irish pub in Manhattan. That is to say buyers moving from looking to writing offers.  We have seen a few multiple offers this past week. Might be good to brush up on multiple offer and back-up offer practices. 2011 Market Report & Graphs Single family home sales are down approximately 16.5% from 2010 to 2011 with only 96 sales reported by the MLS in 2011. Condominium sales are down approximately 6.25% from 2010 to 2011 with only 135 sales reported by the MLS in 2011. 2011 was mirroring 2010 sales through the first three quarters with a sharp drop off in sales in the last quarter leaving 2011 behind 2010 figures. Since most of our buyers are discretionary buyers, the grid-lock in Washington in the last quarter delayed many purchasing decisions by buyers. This may continue to be a significant factor in 2012 sales. I guess I've repeated that the economy is nearly impossible to predict.  Especially in the past months.  I find it more difficult than even the past several years.  My attitudes and assumptions change every day.  All the forecasting that is published, all the predictions made by pundits is mostly impossible to understand and make an sense out of.  There is one truth that keeps arising.  The economies of the world have never been more intertwined than today.  A crises anywhere in the world reverberates right back to Incline Village.  Ever bump in the night causes us to run to shelter.  Often the shelter is more dangerous than where we had just been.
