Today I listened to an abbreviated history of http://www.cabq.gov/aes/s2rr.html. In brief, he said that Rio Rancho, the fastest growing city in the state of New Mexico was started by a group of con artists who sold parcels of vacant, undeveloped land to unsuspecting people in far away cities (mainly New York) who had no idea they were buying a piece of the City of Vision. Rio Rancho is about to have another Pro sports team at the Santa Ana Star Center. Today was the office announcement of the New Mexico Wildcats professional football team. The Wildcats will play their home games at the Star Center, with the first home game being on April 26. I went to the Press Conference today and the excitement level was high as Rio Rancho Mayor welcomed the team and the league to New Mexico. The Team owners and League owners had great things to say about the community and felt that this was an important market for them to be in. The game play sound like it is fast paced. Want to pass along the Good News for the progress and development of Rio Rancho!  The two votes which would allow CNM -Central New Mexico Community College - to begin construction in the City Center area of Rio Rancho both passed soundly.  CNM plans to begin construction on a $20 million facility they intend to use jointly with UNM.  Below is a quote from a local news source....."Homeowners outside of the current tax district who live just north of Northern Boulevard approved CNM's consolidation effort, giving what city leaders believe will be a shot in the arm for the development of the new downtown area built around the Santa Ana Star Center and city hall. A few more things going on in Rio Rancho. There's ground broken at the entrance to Northern Meadows for a much needed Elementary School.  This just started so we don't expect to see a structure for a while.  We also heard a Walgreen's is scheduled to be built at the NE corner of Unser & Northern.  At the planning and zoning meeting last night Oct 30th they were working on approval for two Specific Area Master Plans.  One is along Northern between Idalia & 40th and the other is in Unit 12 between North Hills and Northern Meadows on the west side of Unser. (See my past post for more info in these plans) Both of these projects were tabled as the commissioners and a few land owners had a few things they'd like to see differently.  They will be on the next meeting agenda for possible approva... 10/31/2007
