Even though Christmas is still five days away, it wouldn't hurt you to plan how to perform your clean-up afterward. Any way you slice it, your decorations need to come down at some point. What do you do with tree afterward? Schedule a Westfield Christmas tree pick-up.Westfield Christmas Tree Pick-UpThe Westfield High School Band and Choir offers its services to help you dispose of your Christmas tree after the holidays. For just $20 per tree, students come to your house, pick up your tree, and transport it to our local conservation center for recycling. Anyone who's lived through a Westfield winter knows just how cold it gets here. We experience sub-freezing temperatures quite regularly. That means bundling up in your warmest winter clothing simply to go about your regular daily life. After the sugar rush of Halloween, it's time to take a breath and take stock of all that we have to be grateful for in our lives. Thankfully, most of us count a roof over our heads and food on the table among our many blessings. Unfortunately, not everyone in our area can say that. One thing that makes me proud of the community in which I live is that we never shy away from a chance to give back. The Boys Scouts and our local firefighters both hold Westfield food drives this month. Please give generously to both.Westfield Food DrivesScouting for FoodOn November 2nd, members of our Westfield Boy Scout troop plan on leaving donation bags at local residences. Did you know that jack-o-lanterns originated in Ireland? Also, they didn't start out as carved pumpkins. (Ireland had no pumpkins.) Instead, the Irish carved turnips. Irish farmers hollowed out turnips, gourds, beets, and potatoes. Then, they carved faces into them and placed an ember inside. This was to ward off any evil spirits on All Hallow's Eve. When the Irish came to America, they brought this tradition with them. Over time, they transferred their carving from turnips to pumpkins. Pick yourself up a pumpkin or two at the 2019 Westfield Pumpkin Patch hosted by FUMC to ward off evil spirits at your house this Halloween. What: Westfield Pumpkin Patch 2019Where: First United Methodist Church lawn (1 E Broad St)When: October 12th to 31st, 10:30 am to 6:30 pmContact: FUMC Westfield (908)...

I believe an active lifestyle helps promote a healthy mind as well as a healthy body. I also believe in helping others whenever possible. Several years ago, we found out that my sister-in-law, Diane, had Multiple Sclerosis (MS). We watched this terrible disease attack her body. But her spirit remained strong. We don't want others to see their loved ones experience the devastating effects of this disease. That's why we choose to participate in Bike MS NYC 2019.Bike MS NYC 2019The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has made it its mission to stamp out this disease. They provide funds for research into finding a cure for MS. But they also offer support to individuals and their families living with MS. One way they raise money for all that they do is through events like Bike MS. And that's...

In April 2014, residents of Flint, MI found out that a change in their water source made to reduce costs actually brought unhealthy levels of lead to the city's water. In turn, thousands of men, women, and children developed health issues related to lead contamination. Five years later, they still battle lead issues. Last year, Newark officials found elevated levels of lead in their water. In October 2018, they began handing out water filters to help hold over residents until the issue could be resolved. Earlier this month, EPA officials found that the city's main water source still contains extremely high levels of water. Now, they're handing out bottled water to residents until they can get the lead problem under control. As a call to action for Westfield residents, we're being asked ...
