17th Annual Ye Olde Towne Christmas in Tuckerton Sorry you missed the party. You were missed and this is your invite to next year's gala. Just to fill you in on the one of the happenings in our small community, last Saturday, December 12th the down town section of Tuckerton was transformed into a Christkindlmarkt of yesteryear complete with a visit from Santa. Santa left his sled at home and rode in on the Fire Truck and stayed for picture taking inside the Fire House while across the street at the United Methodist Church the youth group performed for a Live Nativity scene where Mary and Joseph sat with baby Jesus and the Sheppard's corralled the animals for the children to pet. And, inside the church annex there was hot chocolate, coffee, tea with an assortment of baked goods provided ...

A Statue Stands in Tuckerton, NJ! When I first moved back to southern Ocean County many years ago, the statute in the middle of Tuckerton was always a bit of a mystery to me. It sits on a small island on Route 9, where the state highway and Great Bay Boulevard intersect, in between the Tuckerton Seaport and Lake Pohatcong. The statue is a tribute to those who gave their lives in World War I, and was erected by the Improved Order of the Red Men. Here’s a little background on this very old fraternal organization… The Improved Order of Red Men is a patriotic fraternity chartered by Congress. It is a non-profit organization devoted to inspiring a greater love for the United States of America and the principles of American Liberty. Its origin dates back to 1765 and is descended from the ...

Are you looking for adventure while serving your country and your community? If the answer is yes, you might want to investigate opportunities with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary (USCGA). You don’t need a service background, nor do you have to have sea legs. I had the privilege of meeting several members of the USCGA, Flotilla 72 at an Open House for the Rutgers University Marine Field Station in Tuckerton recently.  I learned the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard.  It was created by an Act of Congress in 1939; the Auxiliary directly supports the Coast Guard in all missions, except military and law enforcement actions. They explained that where ever your interests lie, and what ever skills you have, the Coast Guard Auxiliary...
