It is a sad week for propery owners and tenants on the boardwalk as a fire has destroyed the infamous Hurricane Sandy stricken areaThe wind-whipped fire destroyed approximatley 8 blocks of boardwalk — four in each town, as the fire was at the boarder of Seaside Heights and Seaside Park causing millions of dollars in damage before Rescue workers got ahead of the fire by ripping out a 25 foot of boardwalk and piling up huge sand dunes designed to hold back fire & not water.

Compared to the rest of the state and country, many parts of The Jersey Shore boast a higher percentage of homes occupied by residents who own their properties free and clear. Some cases are retiree homeowners who never want to make another mortgage payment, citing their fixed income. Other cases are homeowners who said, despite historically low interest rates, paying off their mortgage was a good calculated financial decision. In nearly every case, the homeowners said that they were glad to have one less bill to worry about in this economy. Nationally, 30 percent of owner-occupied homes, or about 23 million, are free and clear of mortgages, according to the 2010 census. 5k Run, Walk Benefiting Cancer Society Seaside Park Borough is hosting it's 8th annual Walk The Shore For A Cure 5K run and walk and the 6th Annual Kids' Fun Run, both on September 6, 2008 Proceeds from the walk/run will benefit the American Cancer Society. Registration will be from 8:30 -9:30am at the Sawmill Cafe (Stocton and the Boardwalk). This is also the starting point for the race. The fun run starts at 9:45am and the 5k walk/run begins at 10am.
