Yesterday marked POW/MIA Recognition Day in the United States. It’s been celebrated for 24 years. On that day, the third Friday in September, America honors all Prisoners Of War and those Missing In Action, those returned and those still missing and unaccounted for from our nation's wars and conflicts. It passed with little fanfare here in New Jersey, marked with a ceremony at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Holmdel. With about 125 people in attendance, New Jersey also marked Gold Star Mothers Recognition Day, which is celebrated nationally the last Sunday in September. Cute aren't they.  Well they need your help!  The Ocean County Board of Freeholders (NJ) is calling on the public to help nearly 100 kittens that have been turned over to the two local animal shelters. They admit this is the time of year that litters of kittens are surrendered to the shelters or abandoned, but Freeholder Gerry Little says the number of surrendered animals has increased by about 30 % since last year.  Shelter supervisors say home foreclosures have forced many area residents to give up family pets when they loose their homes. According to the state director of the Humane Society of the United States, some people can no longer afford to feed their animals, while others are moving into rental properties that don't allow pets. Earth shatering news here.....   when you are shopping for a mortgage, may it be a FHA loan, a conventional loan, or a VA loan...  please ask for a good faith estimate. Not every loan officer will volunteer one to you. I can't tell you how many consumers that I have spoken to this year that didn't really know their mortgage rate, what their real payment was going to be, or what the total amount of money that they were going to need. They did know round-abouts. One thing that they told me was that they were either qualified or approved. But no good faith estimate.   It doesn't matter what kind of loan that you are applying for, if it's a fha loan or a conventional loan, you should get a good faith estimate.
