With temperatures hovering around 90 degrees today in North Jersey, it hardly felt like Football season. But here we are - opening day of the National Football League - and my team - the NY football Giants - defending Super Bowl Champions officially opened the 2008/09 season with a victory over conference rivals - the Washington Redskins 16-7                    What a great time to be a Giants fan. Go Big Blue! I only wish my Father was here to enjoy this with me. Good luck (but not too much) to the fans of all the other teams as the season begins. Enjoy! Your Community Sponsors and Little Falls Real Estate Team in will be available every Sunday before, after, and yes - EVEN during the games to assist you with your Real Estate needs (along with the rest of the week too!)  Jim Albano and...

The Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) has come up with a new plan for affordable housing and enacted it into law. The new fair share housing requirements will have quite an effect on the towns located in the Passaic Valley region including Little Falls NJ. Under the new state guidelines, Little Falls will be required to create 129 low income housing units by 2018. Municipalities may choose a number of mechanisms for meeting the affordable housing obligations and seek adjustments based on lack of available land for development. The new law has drawn criticism from local officials saying Trenton has gone too far by mandating over-development and passing the burden to the municipalities without adequate funding. There is already an effort underway to challenge the new law on the basis ...

Passaic Valley Regional High School, located in Little Falls NJ and serving the communities of Little Falls, Totowa, and West Paterson - has come to an agreement with the Township of Little Falls to ensure the presence of a school security officer (SSO) for the upcoming school year. Both sides had been at odds recently over what the position's capacity and salary were going to be movng forward. The program which started in 2002 was originally funded through a federal grant. A lack of funding threatened the end of the position. We're happy to report that West Paterson Police Officer Joseph Miller will be filling the role for this school year as Passaic Valley's School Security Officer.   12.5 acres had been set for development at what has become known as the Alfieri tract. Located on Wilmore Rd on the banks of the Peckman River. The development was rejected and the land was purchased by Passaic County with help from federal open space funds. Now Passaic County plans on development of another kind - one that has many branches and a tremendous amount of growth - with a tree farm that would provide saplings to communities, county roads and parks. Using a portion of the Passaic County Peckman Preserve in Little Falls NJ (a new County Park) to cultivate trees is part of a five-year community forestry management plan expected to be submitted to the Passaic County Freeholders by the end of the month. The plan is for the property to remain in a passive and natural state. Acco...

A Little Falls NJ train station may close soon. Could this be "the last stop" for the Great Notch Station? Although this is a small station with very limited parking some commuters and residents are both saddened and angered by the news that the 100-year-old "Great Notch" Little Falls - NJ Transit station may close in October. Many residents specifically bought homes nearby because they could walk to the local station for their morning commute. Bill Wilk, the Little Falls Township Administrator, said NJ Transit officials reached him prior to Monday night's Township Council meeting with news of the train station's possible closure. NJ Transit officials say steadily declining ridership is the main reason the station may close this year. However, residents blame a series of recent sch...

So Brett Favre is a NY Jet.      Here in the NY Metro area, today the local media and local sports radio shows are all over this story. One of the greatest Quarterbacks in the history of the NFL is now a Jet. And thus the nicknames have begun: Brett the Jet, Broadway Brett, etc. Not since a former Jet QB have we heard such adulation's being given                                                                                                               But there was only one Broadway Joe As a NY Giants Fan, I'm not a big Jet supporter but I'll make it a point this year to see Favre play. I love watching him play. But that being said, you have to wonder if this was the right move for the Jets signing a 38 year old nearing the end of his career (after all, he was retired up until a few ...

The 8th annual Jacque Corradino Memorial Softball Tournament is taking place this weekend (7/11 - 7/13 -14 year olds) and next (7/18 - 7/20 -12 year olds). I started this tournament back in 2001 when my daughter was playing and I was the commissioner of Little Falls Softball. Jacque was the first commissioner of the softball program in Little Falls and we lost her during my first year, way too young, to cancer. I ran the tournament for 3 years and then started umpiring when my daughter moved on to high school. My good friend Lisa Smith took the reins and not only continued running the tournament, but improved upon what I had started. This year we're making the transition to my Umpire Association taking over sponsoring and running the tournament. But I'm happy to say that Lisa is still i...

The Township of Little Falls, NJ has revamped it's recycling program by implementing an aggressive plan in response to a new $3 per ton tax on garbage that was recently passed by state lawmakers. The more the Township recycles, the less financial impact the tax will have on the local government and the residents of Little Falls. This news should by welcomed by residents as the new recycling guidelines make the dreaded task of recycling much easier. While the items that must be recycled remain the same, the Township has decided to stick to it's schedule of bi-monthly pick ups but add plastics to the items being picked up curbside. Previously, only glass, metal cans, newspapers, and cardboard were picked up by the DPW. The bulkier plastic items had to be brought down to the Recycling Yard...
