As the 2008 Baseball season winds down, so do the final moments of a place known as Shea Stadium - located in Flushing, Queens NY. Shea Stadium, while not possessing the allure or storied history of it's counterpart over in the Bronx - Yankee Stadium - Shea has a very special history of it's own.  NY Giants legend - Dick Lynch has passed away at the age of 72 after losing his more than a year long battle with leukemia. A stalwart of the Giants "Family", Dick Lynch spent over 50 years with the franchise. The former Pro Bowl Cornerback has been "The Voice of the Giants" in their broadcast booth since 1967 - the season after he retired from playing. Lynch played college ball for Notre Dame and was on the team in 1957 when they ended Oklahoma's record 47 game winning streak. He joined the Giants via a trade from Washington in 1959 and played on the Giants NFL Eastern Division Championship teams from that season and from 1961 - 1963. His Pro Bowl appearance was in 1963.   There are two county roads in Little Falls, maintained by Passaic County, that are fairly heavily traveled and in need of a makeover. The biggest concern for the county and for area residents is the intersection of these two roads. Passaic county officials are looking to upgrade and improve the safety of the intersection of Clove Rd and Long Hill Rd by redesigning it. Projected traffic volume increases in the area for the next 20 years make this project a priority for the Passaic County Engineering Department. The proposed project will cost between $5.6 and $8 million and would be funded by the Federal Transportation Fund. If everything moves forward, the project would commence sometime early in 2012. A friend generously loaned this photo for posting that is dated from the late 1940's - early 1950's (he wasn't sure of the exact date) of a familiar location in Little Falls. At the time the photo was taken, the site contained a Shell Gas Station (in the foreground) and a Pontiac Car Dealership (to the right of the station). In the background is a structure that is no longer there but that structure has been replaced by another - but the use is the same for the new structure. (That's a hint!) Now that summer and vacation time has virtually come to an end and the new school year has begun, organized recreational and competitive sports programs for children have started up again. The Little Falls NJ Recreation Department has some terrific programs available for township school age children.       The first program is "Athletes in Training" which will introduce young children (3 1/2 - 5 yrs old) to a wide range of sports and games including basic skills of soccer, football, basketball, hockey, baseball...and more.
