Cape May, NJ Real Estate News

Pick a street anywhere in Cape May and most likely there is a ghost "living" on the block.  Let's start in the center of town for this ghostly series of blogs.  Elaine's Haunted Mansion, as the name suggests, is a notorious haunt for those not yet willing to leave our beautiful seaside town.  The building is a dinner theater that is also a bed and breakfast. This is no ordinary dinner theater, though.  The productions that are acted out are usually centered around the paranormal.  Well, if that doesn't bring out the resident ghosts, nothing will. I have heard the people who work there have seen, heard, and experienced things that they could not explain.  I have also heard stories that diners have met a ghost or two while watching a production. If you would like to visit this classic hot...

To start off my 2010 real estate adventure, I went to Rain Camp on January 12th in New York City.  It was a convention that was located at the Marriott in Times Square.  At Rain Camp, I learned about the power of Google and the importance of internet marketing in today's social media platforms.  Rain Camp stressed the importance of Facebook, Twitter and Zillow.  I never gave social media, in regards to my business, much thought.  Ben Kinney changed all that.  I am thankful that he shared his words of wisdom. During Rain Camp, I was able to meet fellow Rainmakers and listen to ideas where today's marketing is heading.  ActiveRain has been a driving, positive force of technological insight in the ever changing real estate world.  If you have a question, click the Search button.  Referra...

Cape May is haunted.  So, it is no surprise that there are many terror-ific events happening in the next two weeks.  There is the Historic Haunts Combo Tour which is a trolley ride and tour of the Emblem Physick Estate.  Next, we have the Ghosts of Cape May Trolley Tour that travels past haunted houses in the center of town.  I think they are all haunted.  If you want to see the haunted houses outside of Cape May proper, just drive through West Cape May, roll down your window, and follow the sounds of the coyotes hollowing at the moon.  There is also a Tales of Terror trolley ride where you can listen to Cape May ghost stories.  A must do is the Phantoms of Cape May self guided Halloween tour through Cape May ghostly landmarks.  Of course, you can always stop in for a Murder Mystery at ...

This weekend is officially the start  of our season in Cape May.  There are yard sales a plenty, people walking to the beach, owners cleaning out their homes and getting ready for renters, and of course everyone heading to the beach.....Oh, I said that already.  Today is one of the prettiest days of the spring season.  The sun is out and there is not a cloud in the sky.  The sun is going to be very hot today so I would definately choose the beach over sitting in your backyard.  The restaurants are all officially open during the week instead of just on weekends.  The real estate market is starting to pick up a bit.  All in all, it is a great day to be at the Jersey shore.  I wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.

RE/MAX has jumped onto the bandwagon and rolled out their newest marketing venture to embrace the changing conscious of where our housing market is going. Here is a link to the site that spells out the program and all its requirements and how it can benefit RE/MAX agents and their clients as well as our planet. http://www.remax.net/files/REMAX_GreenProgramGuide.pdf?rnd=0.8584030551439197  I was happy to see that the " EcoBroker" certification was an approved designation that qualified me to use the new RE/MAX Green Designation.    Dave

This sole beachcomber (my beautiful wife) was caught walking on the beach in Cape May this evening. Aside from me taking the picture she was the only one there as far as you could see in each direction. This is one of the treasures of working and living in this area is to be able to get away in just a few minutes from home. Even though times are tough the draw to the beach has endured for centuries , surviving many economies, wars and everything else this country has been through.  It was a reminder to me to take the time to appreciate the simple things around me .

Remember back in the 60's and 70's, when so many Americans were up in arms about 'Big Brother' watching us. And for the fact that so many believe that this is still happening. But let's take this a step further. What about those online that either search for a specific topic. Or that person that decides to Google you?  As I wrote a few weeks ago, Google can be one of your better testimonials. But better yet, that person can find you online through such sites as Facebook, Twitter, or myspace. It's been proven over a short time that Social Media Networking has proven to be a strong way of obtaining new business. It's a way to gain more exposure with little to no time. Did you even know that you can set up your Twitter profile to receive any blogs written here on Active Rain?  Active Rai...

On Monday my wife and I celebrated our anniversary by taking a trip to Cape May, NJ.  I found a great bed and breakfast online call the Queen Victoria.  http://www.queenvictoria.com/  It was a beautiful bed and breakfast and a great location between the beach and Washington Square shops.  We got there and found out that we were given a complementary upgrade to the Crown Jewel. The room was incredible and actually it was a separate cottage building.  It had a living room downstairs with a gas fireplace and flat screen TV with Bose surround sound.  It had a mini kitchen stocked with complementary beverages and great bathroom with two person shower.  Upstairs was another fireplace, king sized bed, and two person whirlpool tub.  The facility was fantastic and we had such a great time we did...

The annual Cape May Food and Wine Festival this year will be from September 20-25, 2008.  It has been happening for the past 11 years and should be on your things to do list. You can go and visit all of the hot spot particapating eateries in Cape May, as well as the Cape May Winery located on Townbank Road just over the bridge. Throughout the festival week, there will be contests that you can vote in, like the Chowder Contest, and tours that you can take on the trolley that stop at various restaurants.  There are also cooking classes and tasting seminars for food, wine and beer. I hope that you will come out and enjoy all that Cape May has to offer.  There are always activities going on throughout the seasons.  Come down to Cape May in the fall, you will be glad you did. This is a shot I took this morning while rowing towards the Cape May bridge. It reminded me of all the great moments in this area where you could imagine being in any number of exotic locations around the world. I thought of some river in Thailand early in the morning with exotic birds echoing from the trees off in the distant. 40 minutes later you could easily see the bridge and the houses across the canal. I feel very fortunate to be able to see these special places almost daily. As a Local Realtor with RE/MAX at The Shore I know of many treasures to find just off the beaten path. For help in finding your way through the fog of real estate please give me a call or shoot me an e-mail   Have a great day, David

For those of you who do not get the local paper, the Press of Atlantic City ran an article about how New Jersey was one of only three states with increasing prices from the same time a year ago...view the link below. http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/186/story/157725.html The funny thing is how even a ray of hope can still be a negative thing according to some agents in the area... See the story below. http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/106/story/164448.html   Let me know what your thoughts are!

The election for the City of Cape May is this Tuesday may 13th. Both a Mayor and 1 council member will be elected on Tuesday. This is a very important election for the near future of Cape May and I would ask that anyone that is able, to excercise your right to vote. There are many major decisions to be made soon, including the design and building of a new Convention Center and whether or not Cape May needs a parking garage. I ask that you look at all of your options and Vote!

It seems as if alot of time has past since we have seen the beauty of Spring.  But thank goodness, it has come again in all of its' glory.  This is a photo of a saucer magnolia that was taken this week at my home.  I have found that March and April are great months to take photos outdoors when plant life is starting to take a deep breath and grow.  The sky is always so blue during these two months.  I am a complete amateur at photography.  So much so that I usually get a perfect picture of one of my fingers.  However, lately I have been trying harder and I am quite pleaased at what I have accomplished.Cape May is not only a great place to vacation and head to the beach, but, to take notice of the specific plant life we have in our area. I would not recommend this plant if you live withi...
