Slushy Sunday. This slushy snow has begun to disappear.   This Odd season Between Sledding and Surfing. I thought this photo said it all One sled and Three Kayaks at the ready. The last days of skiing at Loon Mountain are coming in the next two weeks, which means the golf courses will be open in the next two weeks...we like to shift gears quickly. Search White Mountain Property with the MLS icon on the bottom of this post. I still have the plow on the truck, but for now the blade is stuck in the mud. HAPPY SPRING -In the White Mountains of New Hampshire.    An odd combination of ice and water, it wouldn't be long till boating season is here. Right now there are twenty feet of ice thrown up on shore along the Pemigewasset river.

Spectacular Blue sky's on a Sunny Sunday afternoon Stroll.               Still some snow and frozen patches of ice on the Pemigewasset River - Woodstock NH You can almost feel how cold this water must be, Johnson Brook flows into the Pemigewasset River, it's hard to believe the local kids will be swimming here in a couple of months (today 22 degrees and 0 with wind chill). Dozens of 40 foot long trees with bare-root balls were dragged down the river, left resting on the rocks. This river is not only beautiful but it is also incredibly powerful as well. Days ago there was a twenty wall of ice stacked up high here...gone is the ice, leaving behind these unfortunate trees. Bare Birch trees along the river stand sentry awaiting the return of spring..I'm ready for the snow to go,to put the k...

Loon Ski Resort area home with acreage and water frontage. It is impossible to say it all in the title of this real estate post, when you have an extraordinary listing that is beyond compare the words don’t do an adequate job of telling the whole story about this home and the land it sits on.  Asking $750,000.   Imagine a home of 14 acres, with mountain views and water frontage Call it a gentleman’s farm, call it an estate property, and call it unique –rare, or irreplaceable. The truth is there is nothing like it in my market area, sure there are less expensive properties to be seen and purchased. Sure there are slope side homes for twice the price that you can ski home to. But 14 acres with access to Town water and sewer with no development restrictions makes this property unlike any...

At the start of spring—the vernal equinox—day and night are each approximately 12 hours long (with the actual time of equal day and night, in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring a few days before the vernal equinox). The Sun crosses the celestial equator going northward; it rises exactly due east and sets exactly due west.   Spring Officially Started at 7:21 Easter Standard Time.   You may have flowers in bloom where you live but in the White Mountain of New Hampshire we will be looking at snow in our yards for a few more weeks. The mountains at elevations over 4,000 will retain snow for months to come, in fact the top of Mount Washington 6,300 feet and Tuckerman’s Ravine will retain enough snow to (hike it up yourself) and ski until July.   First Day of Spring off my back deck: http:/...

New Hampshire had one of the highest snow fall totals this winter, since anyone bothered to keep records. This past week the weather gods followed up with huge rain falls and above average temperatures. If you have ever seen a frozen solid river let go all at once, you stood in awe witnessing the power and pressure of water.   A huge debris field was created in the Pemigewasset river when one of the widest parts of this major waterway is squeezed in to a narrow passage under the route 175 bridge here in Woodstock. Forty foot trees snapped like tooth picks and tossed about randomly all over the piles of ice.   It really is hard to tell, but these walls of ice are more than twenty feet tall in a lot of places. The area of coverage I would estimated to be roughly 70 acres, it took me two h...

The Ice let go last night and it piled up high and deep. Hard to tell from the house looking back towards the river...but that huge pile of ice slabs beyond the trees, are 20 plus feet of ice jammed. Can to believe this is a shot of the same spot (of the above picture) five months before...October Birch trees with the hint of the river in the back ground. The ice is several hundred feet across and stacked slab on slab. The course of the river has temporary (I hope) shifted 300 hundred feet north. When it gets a bit warmer out, I'll get out and take some cool close ups of this great ice migration.           October fall foliage bridge...6 months prior...what a difference a few months make. I'm looking forward to sharing some more White Mountain photos...new snow tonight means more skiing...

The six degrees of separation happens with greater frequency as I expand my social networks, and begin my 27th year as a Realtor. First off Congratulations to the Riley Family, we completed a sale on their Deer Park condo Yesterday. What a wonderful family and a great place to re-connect with their kids after a long week at work and school. Now is the time to enjoy the kids while they are young. The view is across the frozen lake in the center of the resort, and you can just catch a glimpse of some of the Ski Trails at Loon Mt in the back ground. This will be a blast for the Riley's and their three children...memories are fondest when recreation is part of the plan. Here is the, everyone that you meet knows somebody that you know - in this case someone I'm related to. When I first met t...

White Mountains - Woodstock NH, Cross Country Ski on the old Rail Road Tracks Wednesday. A mile out along the groomed snowmobile trails...I only had to step off for one snow machine once in two hours. The Boston and Maine Railroad tracks follow the Pemigewasset River, it's visible most of this 6 mile trip.  Murky in the Mountains today...we are expecting a little more snow and that should dress up the trails nicely. There is evidence of farms ,fields and former livestock along the tracks it's a couple of miles from my house till the next home when riding the B&M on cross country skis. Nothing but the sound of the river and my skis, approaching home. I had to pack my own trail on the paths and fields behind the house 90% of the trip was on the tracks but the last little bit was more of a...

Snowy mountain peaks. Taken today 12/18/10 It wasn't long ago we were marveling at the foliage.    ski season Welcomes you to the north country. Same view two months ago...first dusting but foliage still in place. Frozen Water falls on Glover Brook taken 12/18/10....Picture below of the same spot two months ago.      In October the Mossy rock looked like it was from a rain forest...the picture above dispels that notion. Dip...anyone?...this frozen waterfall hides most of the rocks that are visible in the fall          Again hard to believe water moving over a fall...can go from fluid to frozen so quickly.    Almost completely frozen, moving water piles up on the ice and give it a green hue in this dark section of the woods.    It's hard to imagine this is the same spot on Glover Brook i...

I'm a frequent visitor to Peg's restaurant in the Village of Woodstock...they run a 99 cent breakfast special every morning and the cast of characters is worth the price of admission. Sue Fadden Runs the place, and her Husband Jimmy acts as the grand marshal for the daily parade of locals and tourists alike.  In case you are wondering Peg was Sue Faddens Mother, and Fadden's general Store is just up the street a piece.       The left hand side of the street, is a white building with a covered entry that is where Peg's is today.   This Morning Jim and I were talking about the old covered bridge down by my house, and he said wait a sec - I got something upstairs you shou...

Birch Hollow walk by the water...I Missed My Wordless Wednesday due to early darkness and a full day of work (on my normal Mid-week day away). Wednesday's work offered a great opportunity to wrap up a few offers and turn them into transactions. I took three hours away from work this week (today) and stumbled upon one of my favorite subjects. I love my Birch Trees...in fact we call our house Birch Hollow.     The sun is going down on Birch Hollow and the Pemigewasset River...Woodstock NH.    Birch tree reflections in a small tributary off the main course of the river.      Getting dark too early...a little white on the top of Mount Liberty and Mount Lafayette - Lincoln NH . Goodnight to the final rays of the Sun...Good Night Birch Hollow. Friday will be filled with new listings, offers a...

One red leaf caught in a lazy current among the dead foliage.         A quiet walk along the train tracks and the Pemigewasset river.          The rails along the river....I was 20 minutes ahead of the dinner train. Woodpeckers have gone to town on this dead tree, I liked the contrast of the river and the yellow leaves. Glover brook reaches the Pemi river forming this one acre island...I'll walk over when it's frozen in a few months. I love foliage...the Pemigewasset River and the White Mountains of New Hampshire, here are some of the last foliage photos of the year. The further north I go the less is truly left to see...my shots at sun-down tonight.                 Lafyette and Liberty from the pemigewasset river in Woodstock New Hampshire.         Fire and Ice: sun on the eastern banks and complete shadow of the western side of the Pemi.    Rte 175 Bridge at sunset...this shot is taken from a small town park in Woodstock, nice spot for a picnic.   A sales pitch and some foliage pix. I was hoping to plug in one of the photos on the new activerain MLS page, but when I did, I got a message that the listing needed # of Bedroom & # of Baths.     Here's how:1.  Go to http://activerain.com/action/listings and click New Listing2.  Upload photos, enter the address, description and stats3.  Click Save Listing4.  Click Activate      In other words, land was not what the A/R gods had in mind for the new application. If you are a rainmaker and wish to load some of your listings in the new featured - benefit…they will appear on the right margin of your blog (see mine).   While I have your Attention ,Here is the scoop on this home site: This half acre site sits on one of the highest points (that is not Forest service land) in the town of Wood...
