Dave Cummings of Hoops for Heroes was in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire for the annual Fall Foliage Festival.  You may have read in my blog that Dave has been on an amazing two year mission to shoot one million free throws and raise funds and awareness for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.  He's nearing the end of his journey and the one millionth shot will be made at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA on Veterans Day (November 11) beginning at 9 a.m.  Hall of Fame President John Doleva (pictured at left below, with Dave in the middle) has pledged that half of all the day's Hall of Fame proceeds will go to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. I wanted to share one of Dave's recent blogs in which he talks about Waterville Valley and one of his inspirations as h...

Here is the latest blog from Andy Knight, Waterville Valley Resort's blogger laureate and president of the Waterville Valley Foundation.Last Friday night was the grand opening of the new 1829 boutique in [Waterville Valley, NH] Town Square.  As happens a lot around here, the faithful were out in force, shopping, chatting, hanging.  It is a lovely store — a harbinger of the future, I hope — and the welcoming crowd brought a positive vibe.  As I scanned around at all the familiar faces, some weekenders and some residents, I thought about the strange gravity that brings us all back here, or makes us stay.  The old marketing campaign, “Love”, really wasn’t too far off the mark.  With that thought, I give you the first twenty-one reasons I could think of why you should abandon the comforts o...

The other night I watched The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (my guilty pleasure!), which showcases the glamorous "real" lives of purportedly wealthy women from - you guessed it - Beverly Hills! In Monday's episode, one of the cast members threw a party to raise funds for her favorite children's charity.  She invited all her fab friends, collected out-of-this-world swag and auction items, including perfume from Paris Hilton and dinner certificates from swanky Beverly Hills restaurants. She hired a professional party planner with a bustling staff who fitted up the party location with elegant decorations and served up gourmet nibbles.  At the end of the show she proudly announced that she raised $15,000 the charity. Now, compare the Beverly Hills soiree to last Saturday's Waterville Vall...

The mountains are calling you to Waterville Valley, NH.  Summer at Waterville Valley Resort, located in New Hampshire's White Mountains, will inspire you in ways you hadn't thought possible.  The scenic drive into our hidden valley, the string of 4,000-foot peaks towering over 770,000 acres of National Forest.  And as much as there is to do here - boating, swimming, mountain biking, hiking, golf, tennis, theatre, concerts, and an athletic club - what will leave the most indelible imprint on you is what you'll see when you're doing nothing at all.  The way the morning mist slowly rises off Corcoran Pond.  The noise of a gentle breeze as it stirs the trees on a still afternoon.  The color of the mountains as the day's last light fades.  It's pure nirvana for the senses.  There's no questi...

Waterville Valley Resort is a small town.  A VERY small town.  The sign at the entrance to our resort community proudly proclaims, "Population 305."  For such a small New Hampshire town, Waterville Valley offers municipal services that would rival any big city in the country.  Waterville Valley was the first community in New Hampshire to create a multi-disciplined department of public safety, which is tasked with all police, fire, and emergency medical functions within the town.  This means that all full-time personnel are required to be trained and state certified as police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians.  The Town of Waterville Valley continues to have the only exclusive, full-time, Public Safety Department in New Hampshire.  The town is served by 12 public ...
