Concord, New Hampshire is the state capital of New Hampshire, a city of nearly 40,000 and a gateway to New Hampshire's White Mountain and Lakes Regions. The land which Concord now occupies along the banks of the Merrimack River was settled thousands of years ago by Abenaki Native Americans called the Penacook. The broad sweeps of the river valley, fertile soil for farming, and easy transportation on the Merrimack made the site of Concord equally inviting to English-speaking colonists in the eighteenth century. Settled by immigrants from Massachusetts in 1725, the community grew in prominence during the colonial era. Some of Concord's earliest houses remain today at the north end of Main Street. In the years following the American Revolution, the city's central location made it a logical...

This past Friday, November 14th 2008, the Concord NH Board of Realtors held its Annual Charity Auction. This years proceeds were to benefit, for the second year in a row, The Womens Rape and Domestic Violence Center. The auction was held at the Holiday Inn, downtown Concord. The Fund Raising Favorite started around 11:00 with registration and an Auction Preview. There were many great items....including lots of fun Gift Baskets. The item of most interest was a sharp looking Old Towne Kayack! It was very popular! There was a brief Business Meeting and then to the "fun".... We had a delicious Buffet Lunch and a cash bar!  Hmmm all of those people standing there are from my office!        Our enthusiastic Auctioneer, Paul Wilmott has generously donated his services every year to this wort...

There's a new place in town. Xtra chZ opened the first week in August at the corner of Rt.106 and Pembroke Road.   Now.....we have a lot of Pizza establishments in town so I asked the owner/operator, Nick Makris, what about his place makes him competitive? Nick didn't even hesitate in his answer "we cater to the whole family, not just the guys on lunch break" He has also told his help that no one is to leave "unhappy"....there's no skimping!  They have more than 28 Specialty Pizzas. They also have an extensive menu of Specialty Salads! This is more than your standard Pizza  Place. There are full American Dinners Plates and even Desserts!(I can attest to the White Chocolate RaspberryTruffle....yum)                         The Ma...

I often refer to the Millbrook Gallery as Concord's best kept secret. It is a delightful place with ever changing exhibits (indoors and out). They feature local artists, host exhibits, partake in community events and offer a delightful escape for a Sunday afternoon! This past weekend we went so that we could see some of the new outdoor exhibits....before Winter comes!   WOOLLY MAMMOUTH-Bob Shannahan This is the guy I really wanted to see! He is life size and very impressive! He is made of cranberry, cattail, white clover, alder and sedge grass. His "toenails" are stones  It's in the eyes       This is called (of all things) THE HAND                          THE CROWS-B Kirkpatrick The artist really captured the angular edginess of crows....ready to swoop!            Granite and Bronze P...

There are those of you who may think I have a personal relationship or stock shares in the Mill Brook Gallery......I can assure you that is not the case! I just happen to really like the place. We took a trip out there this past weekend (I will share the pictures in a later Blog) and I picked up some information on an "Event" next Saturday (October 11th ) being sponsored by the Concord Chamber of Commerce ( 224-2508). It is a "round robin" type of event great for the whole family and art lovers of all ages. Several area businesses are displaying art for the Public to view. There will be raffles, and refreshments at selected sites! (The gallery is having make your own sundaes) There will be maps available at all ...

They offer the finest in Imported Cheeses and Wines....and they have Gourmet Chocolate, Herbs, Meats, Baked Goods and other Epicurean Delights!  Butter's has definately filled a niche'. Before they arrived in town people had to travel South to Manchester for specialty items.    Meet Keith Dickey...... Keith is the owner operator of Butters and can be found there most days! A New York transplant who has definitely made in roads onto the local "Foodie" scene. Keith has started Wine and Cheese Tastingson Thursday (and sometimes Friday) nites.    There is emerging, yet another victim of this on going Real Estate crisis....the Student Loan Program. According to Mark Connolly, director of the State Bureau of Securities Regulation, many NH students are being notified they are not receiving the Student Loans they were expecting. Many Lenders have left the Student Loan programs. The NH Higher Education Loan Corp, a leading provider, announced suspension of its program because of Market Conditions. This has affected over 6,000 students. More collateral damage!!    Concord NH Realtor Area Information

I love real estate.  I love to travel.  I love my family.  I love being a part of the AR community and the friendships I have made here.  I also love it when everything comes together. And when it all came together today, this is what it looked like: This picture is Joan Mirantz and I, standing in front of her office. 2 years ago, I was helping my cousins, Abby and Jason, look for a new home to purchase in Dallas.  Abby got an unexpected job offer in Concord, New Hampshire.  I sadly bid them farewell, but knew that sometime soon they'd buy a house in Concord and I would have the opportunity to refer them to an agent there. Fast forward to a few weeks ago.  I had been blogging on AR for approximately 8 months and had made many friends across the country here.  One of them is Joan Mirantz...

A while back I did a post about the green movement and how some local businesses were embracing real energy improvement practices in their daily routines.  This featured The Red Blazer on Manchester Street in Concord NH. Well this Independence Day The Blazer was in the news again! The Red Blazer decided to spend Independence Day as Energy Independence Day! A story on NPR reported how for two hours the Blazer decided to"opt out" of the Power Grid and operated all of their energy eaters off of their recycled vegetable oil generator. They started off on diesel ....brought the fuel up to temperature and then circulated it through the Vegetable oil generator to bring the temperature up on that. They ran for two hours and no one knew the difference! They eventually hope to operate for ...

Last Night my husband and I had dinner with someone I've been looking forward to meeting for ages! Carol Smith from Toledo ,Ohio and I have been enjoying an AR relationship for some time now.  Carol just took a brief vacation in New England so we arranged to meet for dinner. We decided on   The Barley House, 132 North Main because it's right across from the State House and would be easy to find. We were to meet at 6:00.  It was a beautiful night...nice enough that the sidewalk tables were filled with happy customers!                                              Carol said she would be wearing White Capris and a Turquoise Top. My husband Geoff and I were early and when Carol and her husband Tim arrived I spotted her right away  .... White Capris and a Turquoise Top!  We had some really ...
