Your Private Septic System and the Soil Type on your Propertu Part One, there sure has been a great deal of study on just how will the soil of a property handles the waste and pathogens in the septic effuent. The EPA has been defining the Septic Wastewater Infiltration System or drainfield, by the limiting conditions of the site in a much more thorough mannet than just a simple perocoltion test, just how rapidly the soil of the property absorbs the water. There sure does need to be adequarte depth to what is called the, limiting condition. Now this refers to either an impermeable layer that blocks the water flows to the soil beneath, or groundwater. The shallower the limiting condition, the more difficult its going to be to achieve the proper degree of treatment.     Tour Private Septic...

Your Private Septic System and the Soil Type on your Property Part Two, the EPA and other agencies, have been giving the shallow drainfield, where all soil life resides, a whole lot more credit for the job that shallow drainfields do in treating the waste from the home. This sure is another reason the EPA places such emphasis on maintaining the vadose zone, where the soil receives oxygen from the air. This zone is essential to maintaining a healthy ecology of soil bacteria and maximizing uptake of nutrients and elimination of pathogens. There are millions of microorganisms in the trench of a typical drainfield. Your Private Septic System and the Soil Type on your Property Part Two,there are billions of these organisms in the top foot or so of the soil, 98% of soil life is in the top 16 ...

Your Private Septic System and the Soil Type on your Property Part Three, the width and length of the infiltration surface are very important design considerations to improve performance and will limit the impact on the receiving evironment. Trenches, beds, and seepage pits (also known as dry wells) are traditionally used geometries. Seepage pits can be effective for wastewater diepersal, but sure don't provide must in the way of treatment, because they extend deep down into the soil profile, where oxygen transfer and treatment is limited and the separation distance to the ground water is reduced.   Width- infiltration surface clogging and the resulting loss of infiltrative capacity are less where the infiltration surface is narrow. This appears to occur because reaeration of the soil b...

A bit of Septic System History, back in 1919 C.P. Rhymus and Leslie C. Frank worked for the U.S. Public Health Service. And they did a feasibility study on the use of single family home's septic systems and small communities in America. Rhymus and Frank recommended what was called a Imhoff tank  to serve a single family home of five folks. They also specified alternate drainfields fed by a distribution box, which could very will be History's first dual drainfield. Since this here tank did not have a patent or royalty restrictions, it was adopted on a wide scale for single family homes. Now over the years, septic tanks have changed in the design of them somewhat. But they sure do still perfom the same functions, in respect to teduction of solids and sludge. The major improvement of a hom...

A Whole Different kind of Septic System Sullivan County New Hampshire Accompany Series Post 2, this post is the second part of the three posts that I'm doing to accompany the series. I'm writing for a series challenge. There's always a possibility of odor varies with a Composting Toilet System, just as there's also possibility of getting backup odor from a regular Septic System. A system with a remote compost-er coupled with a toilet with a trap like a micro-flush toilet very rarely, if ever produces any odors.   A Whole Different kind of Septic System Sullivan County New Hampshire Accompany Series Post 2, Now a self-contained composting toilet is more apt to produce them.   Using a good fan venting system in the right direction should very will prevent this, in fact a good fan will oft...

Composting toilet system, diverting the urine. The reason you want to do divert urine, its full of nitrogen and usually sterile. There has been studies and reports written, say-en that urine and feces combine to produce a malodorous substance, show the two are much easier to manage separately. A Whole Different kind of Septic System Sullivan County New Hampshire Accompany Series Post 3, For that reason, toilets that divert urine ( like the diagram above shows ) are increasingly used with composters. Now in Sweden, there are several urban and suburban homes and apartment buildings that use compost...

Then seven years later these two men divided the land up. Gorges took the northern, which became Maine, and John Mason took the land that became the State of New Hampshire.
