No Snowbirds At Roosevelt Park Zoo Actually it's a matter of how you look at it. We indeed have birds like penguins that are "snow birds" but the term "Snowbirds" most people are familial with are those North Dakotians who head South for the winter, not actual birds. That being said, ALL of the animals at Minot's Roosevelt Park Zoo stay at the zoo year around. You may be very surprised at some of the animals that not only stay year around but ones that actually enjoy a little time outside even when the temp is well below freezing.Living only 500 feet from the zoo I can tell you that I see and hear the Lions and other big cats in the winter, the camels, and more. This week, weather permitting, you can visit the Roosevelt Park Zoo from noon to 4:00 on December 28, 29, & 30th. Donations will ...

Minot's Eastwood Park Christmas LightsI just drove through Minot's Historical District, Eastwood Park, after dropping my daughter off at her friends and I thought I'd take a few pics along the way. The decorating is far from spectacular but these two homes looked pretty good so I thought I'd share. Of course it might have helped if I would have had my camera along instead of using my phone. Despite the look of the pics I was parked when I took the shots.

I'm Crying FoulOK, actually I'm not doing anything but venting. Last week I sold both sides of a town house. A developer built a duplex which sat on the market for a while but not to long. He planned on building several of these duplex homes while our market was really moving with the oil boom. I brought 3 buyers to his agent and I have several more lined up. After I brought those 3 he got it in gear and is building more units. With 2 duplex's up and my selling 3 of the 4 units I got the Buyers permission to put up a row of SOLD signs for a week.Gee whiz, would you know all my signs mysteriously pulled themselves up the next day and laid themselves in the dirt. Who'd a thunk?Maybe I should ask the Sellers agent if he saw who could have done this... Dale?

Tonight My Daughter Is In The Back Of A Police CarYou know I spend a lot of time bragging about my kids but tonight my darling little daughter is in the back of a police car!15 year old, honor student, very involved in church and ROTC, now in the back of a squad car.Oh wait!!! It's a good thing. Tina is now involved in a youth program for the police department. This will be her 3rd night out and she will receive a T-shirt in recognition of her involvement with the program. I think it's a neat program for kids to learn what a cops life is like. I'm sure her Grandpa Timm is smiling down from heaven as he once was a police officer. For more information on how your son or daughter can get involved in this program check with your local police department.

It's So Slippery...We have had unseasonably warm weather this Fall/Winter and today started out with a light rain. With the temp right at the freezing mark and dropping our City streets were like ice skating rinks.Minot is NOT know to be proactive when it comes to sanding City Streets. The joke here is that the body shops pay them NOT to go out until the first 100 accidents. So HOW SLIPPERY IS IT? On my way back to the office from a visit I saw a sanding truck turn at a residential intersection and slide across the road to mow over a stop sign. I would have taken a picture but it was way to dangerous to even consider stopping.

Flood Insurance In Minot North DakotaThere are a lot of misconceptions going around about flood insurance in Minot North Dakota. I hope the following will help some people understand better what is actually happening in the Mouse River Valley of Minot North Dakota.Rates have not increased since the flood of 2011. Here is my most recent Flood Insurance Statement: You can see My home is insured for $200,000. and it's contents as insured for $80,000. My annual premium is $429.00.When I moved to Minot and purchased a home 2 blocks from the river I wanted flood insurance, it was not mandatory. Because it was not mandatory my agent thought I was nuts and I literally had to talk him into selling it to me. $429.00 was cheap peace of mind to me and it certainly paid off big in 2011 when my home ...

This Mornings Men's Breakfast @ OSLC Home made biscuits, gravy, and scrambled eggs were on today's menu for the Our Saviors Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) Men's Breakfast this morning as well as information and a study called The Great Divide. It was a discussion about the differences between Islam and Christianity. It was very well put together and considering it was supposed to be a one week study of two hour lessons, one lesson per day, we did really well to get through the entire thing in 2 hours.I felt it was leaving people in a bit of a state of despair so at the very end I stood up and reminded people: "Let's not forget there once was a man named Saul who proclaimed jihad on the Christian faith".If you would like to come to the next OSLC Men's Breakfast it will be January 30th....

WAKE UP MINOTWITHMICHELLEAT THEDAILYBUZZ!See that beautiful smile, that's Michelle and she is the the most energetic, genuine person I know.Always upbeat and always level headed I'd love to get her out of that coffee kiosk and on my Real Estate team BUT Michelle loves owning her own business and serving you the best cup of Joe you will find in Minot. The trick is finding this rare jewel, which is also kind of a blessing because you won't have to wait as long to be served as you would at those other places (that are far less as tantalizing as The Daily Buzz).Michelle's kiosk is cleverly hidden behind I. Keating Furniture, just East of the Minot Public Library, and by the Am track station. If you need directions ask a Police officer, they all know where the best cup of coffee in town is. S...

An Obvious Engineering Blunder In Minot NDI recently wrote a post about the joy of having a street reopened entitled It's About Time. It is great to have Central Avenue in Minot back open but one major engineering blunder has already revealed it's self. See if you can see itFor what ever reason they deliberately built bottle necks into this intersection. After being open less than a week every curb is black from tires hitting them. As you can see they drew the curbs way out beyond the street where people park, exaggerating the corners and creating the bottle necks. You can also see that this is an area of commerce. It is served by delivery trucks and large vehicles as well as regular traffic. What were they thinking? Notice the benches way out on the corners... what a nice place to have...

Minot Real Estate 101, It looked Good On Paper  One of the biggest obstacles Real Estate agents need to overcome when working with 1st time home buyers is convincing those buyers that the absolute perfect home does NOT exist and they are not going to find it out there. When I show homes I am careful to point out flaws that I see BUT I am also good at pointing out ways to overcome problems like non-load bearing walls that can be moved, carpet and wallpaper that can be removed and so on.My best advice to starry eyed 1st time home buyers who are looking for "the perfect" home is to ask anyone who designed their own home if they had to do it over again is there anything  they would change now that they have lived in the house they designed. I have yet to find one homeowner that would not ch...

Minot City Hall, Know Where It Is ???Minot's City Hall is not the easiest place to find if you are not real familiar with the City of Minot but it's a good idea to know where it is. It may help a few of you to know it's that building across from the Library but then again the Library is just as hard to find as City Hall.Let me tell you the easiest routes but still "Google" it and look it up on Google Maps.1) From Broadway (North or South) in the Valley area of Minot turn West between I. Keating Furniture World and Wells Fargo Bank. Go to the bottom of the hill. When you are at the stop sign you are directly in between the Library on your Right and City Hall is right across the Street on your Left.2) From Burdick Expressway you turn North (down the hill) on 6th Street SW at the Sinclair ...

Minot, It's About Time!!! Photo by Jill Schramm of the Minot Daily NewsCentral Ave in Minot is now OPEN!It almost seems like a miracle to see Minot's Central Ave open to traffic again. Although this downtown portion of Central Ave in Minot is just a few blocks long it's being closed had totally screwed up downtown traffic for the entire Spring/Summer seasons.Just like armchair quarterbacks wonder what there team quarterback and/or coach was thinking many of us wondered if the City Engineer had a brain at all. Well now that it's open I'm sure everyone will think he was a genius. It opened today and I've driven up and down it 3 times already just to make sure it is really open. This should be a big help to the struggling Downtown Merchants who have had to endure a lot of heart ache over th...

BOO at the Minot ND Roosevelt Park ZooToday was the annual Boo at the Zoo for the Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot ND. I wish I would have got the word out earlier but now that my kids are to old to participate I totally forgot until our street rapidly filled up with costumed children and adults. It was a huge turn out and the best Boo at the Zoo I can remember. I got to wander through and get pics for my blog.

Minot North Dakota's BEST Mexican FoodObviously when we are talking about food personal preference is going to be very biased and when I reveal what I consider to be  the best Mexican food in Minot ND a whole lot of people will disagree. I also want to point out that I am talking food here NOT restaurants! So, my favorite Mexican food can be found at....OK, I hear some groaning out there BUT this is my absolute favorite place to eat. Forget the $50.00 a plate restaurants with the ambiance for the hoity toitie crowd. Give me Taco John's famous 6 pack and a pound (6 soft shell tacos and a pound of potato Ole's). The location pictured above is Taco John's newest location in town on North Broadway slated to open next week. We currently have 3 locations in town and this new one will replace ...

Minot Lost One Of It's BestLarry SundbakkenI was shocked to read in today's paper at the passing of Larry Sundbakken. It was only a brief statement that he passed away at the age of 68. Larry was one of the "Good Guys" in this industry. He was a Broker Associate/Co-Owner at Signal Realtors here in Minot ND. Larry never had a bad thing to say about anyone and he was encouraging to everyone. You could always expect this soft spoken man to tell you the truth and in a fashion that never offended. If I could magically transform from my rough personality to another I would like/strive to be like Larry. His passing is truly a shock to me and our community. Larry will be greatly missed by all who's lives he touched. Please keep his family in your prayers.
