Thank you Minot Daily NewsIn Saturdays paper the Minot Daily News Included their annual "Progress" section on Minot Housing. There was a nice one page article that three local Brokers were quoted in and I was one of the lucky ones to be noted as you can see from the section on the left.To be one of three out of a couple hundred was neat enough but it was really cool to be recognized as "an accomplished blogger" and that of course I can thank Active Rain for.The quote was a little off, as I actually said The days of JUST placing a sign on your front lawn are long gone, but what the heck, I'm very happy they recognized my accomplished blogging. Tomorrow I'll be sending The Minot Daily News a thank you card.

As far as I know all States require Realtorsto take several hours of Continuing Education. In North Dakota we are only required to take 9 hours of continuing education a year. I have 10 hours in so far this year because I enjoy learning and I figure I will most likely have 20 to 30 hours in by the end of the year. The latest class I attended was put on by the USDA, United States Department of Agriculture. It was a tough class to sit through for four hours but certainly worth my time in the classroom. The USDA offers some great loan programs in an effort to bolster rural home sales. USDA loans are NOT for people with bad credit but help some folks with marginal credit and folks who have little or no money to put down. In Ward county all homes are eligible outside of the city limits of Mino...

Yesterday was the opening day of Historic Corbett Field in Minot with Minot State University's 1st Home Game. They played Nebraska's Wayne State Wildcats who licked their butts. Yesterday was a great day to play ball with temps in the 70's. Not so much today as it's about 40 degrees with 40 mile per hour winds. I'm glad I'm in my house across the street watching and not in the grand stands.    Corbett Field is about a zillion years old and the old Negro Leauge played here.

Going to the Post Office Almost Always Brightens My Day.Even when I was a very young man tagging along with my father I enjoyed trips to the Post Office. My Dad seemed to know everyone coming and going in and out of the Post Office. There was always a lot of smiles and hand shaking. I don't ever remember a sour face.No matter where I've lived I've found the scenario stays the same. I look forward to my daily trips to the Minot Post Office. I not only say hello to everyone I run into in the lobby but often I find myself shaking hands and even starting friendships. A few of these meetings have lead to faithful clients. If you are feeling lonely and are looking for a friendly face I recommend you get yourself a Post Office box, check it every day, and while you are there say hello to those y...

Day one of the KHRT Share-A-ThonTwice a year I look forward to manning the phone for the Christian Radio station in Minot ND. I always contribute both my time and money during Share-A-Thon. This morning I gave personally and I always give in the Business name as well.I also challenge other Brokerages to give and offer to match their giving up to $100.00 besides my own donation. No other Real Estate Agency has EVER taken up my challenge. If you call now it may be me you talk to on the phone.

Check out this open house banner.Once in awhile the old dog gets lucky! Lately on Saturday when they print the open houses there have been 50 to 80 open houses. The standard format for the open house page is two columns for the width of the paper.I wasn't about to have an open house on Easter Sunday and my weekend looked pretty hectic already so I ruled out Saturday but I thought why not Easter Monday?Evidently I was the only Realtor of about two hundred to think that way... so... the Mint Daily News was kind enough to give me a large print banner across the entire page for my one, the only, open house of the week. How cool is that!I'm looking forward to the busiest open house in town. Please stop by and say hello tomorrow Monday the 28th from 2:00 to 4:00PM.

Time to Re-Think Mall PhotosFor some parents of young children this Easter Bunny was their worst nightmare. While no misappropriate conduct was reported it was discovered that this Bunny was a REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER. A registered sex offender who was wanted on an outstanding warrent was busted as the Easter Bunny at Minot's Dakota Square Mall.Just to note that the Mall hired a national company who does this sort of thing, they contracted through a local temp agency, and none of them did a backgrounf check to see if a registered sex offender would be holding the kids coming in to see and be photographed with the Easter Bunny. Here is MY tip to parents: For Easter tell your kids about the reason for Easter... Jesus Christ, son of GOD who gave his life for us, and then if you feel your lif...

Do You Have Any Historical Knowledge Of This Building?I was walking around downtown Minot last week looking to snap a picture of an old or interesting building. This building located at 17 South Main Street stood out to me because of the interesting brickwork and the date, which I believe is 1883. It’s a shame that much of the front of the building is “modernized” but I find the remaining brickwork amazing and intriguing. I also wish I could take the signs down and see what’s underneath. I’m sure the original name of the building is still there. To me the building looks like it may have originally been some sort of temple, either religious or labor.    The top right cornerstone especially intrigued me with the year on it, as it was very hard to read. I was sure to zoom in as close as I ...

With the change of seasons it's important to keep tabs on the humidity inside your home, especially if you are in a home that once flooded. The last thing you want to do is to promote mold in your home. Interior living in the North land is unbearable without a humidifier. Shortly after that furnace kicks in the humidity in most Northern homes would drop to about 20% if you did nothing to raise it. At 20% you will have a great deal of static electricity, dry skin problems, and even shrinkage of certain building materials that may lead to cracks in drywall and other materials. However if you don't turn off that humidifier in a timely fashion you will be promoting mold through out your house and that would be an even more serious health hazard. I honestly have not been able to get a straig...

Advent Service With A TwistFor the last several years we have been going to the Wednesday evening Lenten services. I admit that I have had to somewhat drag myself there because after a day of Real Estate I'm ready to be at home and relax. Although I may go somewhat reluctantly I have found that it greatly enhances my appreciation for the meaning of Easter. Each year the church we attend, Our Savior's LC-MS, does something a little different. Last year it was a several weeks long play. This year an artist in our church, Grace Giuliani, paints a portrait during the entire service and as she paints you can see her up front or on the worship screens. Here are the 1st 3 of 4 of her paintings. Of course each one matches up with the theme of the service. Grace does not complete the painting by ...

Budget Music & Video in Minot NDIf you are like me you still like to spin vinyl. I've been rebuilding my collection after losing more than 1,000 LP's in the flood that destroyed much of my possessions in 2011. Budget Music & Video is Minot's top outlet for vinyl.Located Downtown Minot at 11 S. Main Street in Minot NDThis isle is mostly vinyl, new and used. I think it's great that there are still producers of vinyl records. I still love looking a "Album Art".Look at all those posters and yes I went through every one of them. I was surprised at the strong presence of the Beatles and Bettie Page. Budget Music & Video also carries apparel, incense, and more.Budget Music and Video is a nice clean store and staffed by friendly people. If they don't have the music you are looking for they will...

"THE" Sure sign of Spring Comes to Minot NDKeep in mind Spring rarely gets to Minot ND prior to mid April. In my 62 years of living in MN and ND I've never seen the signs of Spring like I'm seeing this year any wheres near the 1st of April much less early March. Tonight, in my back yard "THE" sure sign of Spring came hopin along.Note there are very few blades of green grass yet, but also NO snow! This is easily 2 months earlier than I've ever seen a Robin here before. The trees are also budding and the geese have shown up in mass, starting about a week ago. I'm truly hoping Mother Nature doesn't throw us a curve ball and dump some late winter weather on us that would be hard on all the early birds and the vegetation.

Inspired Interiors, 119 S. Main Street Minot NDI went to downtown Minot for a Localism blog and was not disapointed by Inspired Interiors at 119 S. Main Street in Minot. I had no idea this establishment existed until I walked in today. They have an amazing inventory and it was hard to pick a few pictures for my blog post but I hope the following give you a good idea and a reason to head there soon. A word of caution, I would leave the kids at home as Inspired Interiors is very packed full of breakables.  Some of the items are HUGE like the mirror above is about 7' tall.My favorite item was very hard to photograph as it was in a narrow display window. It was a near life size Elk made of sticks, hopefully you get the idea below. If you can not stop by Inspired Interiors at 119 S. Main Stre...
