Special offer

Yadkin County, NC Real Estate News

We work hard for our clients.  We go out of our way to help sell their homes.  Sometimes it is the home that is the problem, maybe needs an update or two.  Sometimes it is just the economy, buyers can get "spooked" about major a commitment like a home.  Sometimes it's financing, the buyer that puts in that great offer, just can't get the proper financing.  But if you see this sign show up a couple of doors down, give up the listing.   Really, give it up now!

I recently read a NY Times  article about the food stamp program in New York city.  Where previous administrations had reduced the number of people on the federal program, now the city seems to be promoting the program "with materials that all proclaim a civic duty to apply- to "help New York farmers, grocers, and businesses.  There is even a program on Rikers Island to enroll inmates leaving the jail." Of course this is a controversial issue, in that most people see the need to help their neighbors in need and maybe the program is the best way to organize and administer the benefits, but one might question the logic in the next couple of paragraphs. One case was about a Harlem widow, age 45, that worked as a part time school crossing guard.  She made approx. 15k per year since her husb...

A consumer group reports that the banking industry has given over $41 million to the Senate Banking committee members since 2005 and spent $336 million in lobbying efforts in the first three quarters of 2009.  Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-CT), Chairman of the Senate Banking committee, received over $9,000,000 and the ranking Republican Richard Shelby (R-LA) received $2.5 million.  Both seem to oppose any independent consumer protection regulations.  Don't look for meaningful reform from these jokers.

The Federal Reserve published the basic plan that it follow to reduce the massive liquidity that it has injected into the system to help stave off economic collapse.  The plan was basically what could be expected from the Fed since it has basically run out of tools to combat the problem.  It can raise the Federal Funds rate, which is the rate the Federal Reserve charges member institutions to borrow overnight to balance their books.  It can also raise the "discount rate" which is a discounted funds rate that member institutions pay when they borrow money for emergency reasons or for more than one day.  Normally the payback period is 28 days but the Fed has increased it to 90 days for this crisis and it currently stands at .25%  A new approach that was broached by the Federal Reserve was...

The Senate passed a heath care reform bill in the dark of night that will put additional pressures on the middle class of America.  Passing with 60 votes, mostly Democrats, the bill has some interesting things in it  that our President and Congress told us numerous times weren't part of any health care overhaul.  The bill passed by the in the Senate is somewhat similar to the one passed in the House.. Each costs around $1 trillion over 10 years, with benefits starting in about 4 years.  So to begin with, the "cost" is based on 6 years o payouts compared to taxes and fee increases that will start now.  Also included are massive cuts in Medicare spending.  We were told by our President that there would be no new taxes on the the American public.   The bills include government handouts for...

The stimulus bill signed into law provides a very generous tax credit to first time home buyers to help stimulate the sagging housing sector.  The credit will supposedly entice buyers to get out and buy part of the current inventory and move the industry forward.  I believe that it will not do what it is designed to do, and will cost us more than the 8,000 dollars per homeowner in the longrun. First off, with pricing a very low levels, some at pre-1990 levels, there is enough incentive to buy based on price.  Secondly, the tax credit only applies to first time buyers with incomes between 75k and 150k combined.  Some of the largest areas hit by the housing bust are second homes and luxury homes.  Neither would be helped with the credit.  It would seem that the largest recipient of the ad...

Politics as usual in Washington when the big three auto execs talk on the hill.  I suspect the cost of all these hearings are going to run in the millions and in the end, the Bush administration is going to force the Democrats to bail them out as a last gesture for future political fodder for the Republicans.  If the bailout is to protect the auto workers, read in union, then once again the average citizen is screwed. The point is that no proof has been offered that Americans need 25 or more models of cars.  There is an over supply of manufacturing, there has been this over supply for years.  It took creative financing to sell the ones that were sold.  As to the average business owner, of which most of the people on Active Rain are, we are not getting bailed out.  Tens of thousands of u...

One day after the historic election of Barack Obama, the stock market came back to earth, sinking 486 points.  The loss was cause in part by some profit taking but most investors were bothered by reports of additional job cuts in the industrial sector.  The losses underscore the true nature of our economy, one that is linked with the rest of the world and all its ups and downs.  Americans will have to learn to live with the basic fact that it is easier to come down than to be raised up.  With Americans enjoying the highest standard of living in the world, with international companies finding the US a mature market for many products, companies are moving to where they can get the best opportunities for growth. Our leaders, especially president elect Obama, will need to get a strong grip ...
