For multiple years, we, The Cameron Team, have been sponsors for a local event called The Dolphin Dip. This is North Carolina’s version of a Polar Dip. On New Year’s Day, a few thousand people converge at the Roland Avenue beach access in Surf City, NC, and, at the sound of a starting pistol, plunge into the freezing water at noon. It’s great fun and people look forward to it every year. This is the 14th year for the Dip and it started with a bet among a small group of friends. Since then, it has evolved into a nonprofit fundraiser. Past charities have included groups who aid veterans, provide hospice care, and host surf camps for disabled children, each having a direct connection to our area. This year the Dip has TWO nonprofits it’s working with – Autism Support and Programs (A.S.A.P....

by Desiree Whalen. Hi everyone, Hope you had a great weekend! I’m back at it today with a new neighborhood showcase page just added to the site this afternoon. When the weather gets warm, I find myself spending a lot of time with clients up on Topsail Island, so today I’ve added a page about a neighborhood in Surf City called Shaes Landing, which is just off S. Shore Drive at Shaes Landing Drive (south of the bridge to the island). Located just a short drive to shopping and restaurants on the island, Shae’s Landing residents enjoy great water-access neighborhood amenities such as the community gazebo, boat ramp, and day dock. To see all properties currently available, follow this link: Shaes Landing:http://www.desireewhalen.com/shaeslanding.php or click here for an area map:http://homes...

365 tHINGS  to do in Wilmington and the cape fear regon - Day 97-- Island of Lights Parade at Topsail. This Flotilla had its humble beginning in 1993...Winter is boring so they decided to decorate boats and have them sail down the intracoastal waterway.   The event started out small with about 11 boats...each decorating their boat.  The Flotilla has endured... it is small but fun....    Before you head to the Flotilla...go to Soundside park and check out their beautifaul tree....and take a walk along the intracotasl waterway walk.....  Come on out  Friday November 26 to see what it is all about..... after that....head to Wrightsville Beach on Saturday for their Flotilla....

I suppose we shouldn't be griping here on the coast of North Carolina, at least not so far as the weather is concerned anyway. Most of the state has experienced true winter weather, either in the form of snow or ice over the past few weeks. More is forecast for this coming week end. We here along the coast in Wilmington, Topsail Island and Hampstead, have not had the pleasure of even a snowflake. At least not that I have seen, anyhow! Yesterday, we went to Wilmington for the sales meeting and then on to a broker event at Bellingham, a new home condominium community. One of our colleagues at Sea Coast, Buddy Blake and his team hosted the event. Let me set the stage. Yesterday was a miserable, cold, grey and rainy day along the coast. It was pouring as we drove to Bellingham. The tem...

I am sure that you, like the rest of us here on Topsail Island and in Jacksonville are happy to finally see sunshine and warmer weather! This has been a glorious first week end of Spring! Our home on the island looks out over the Intracoastal Waterway. Over the past month, the sun has begun shining through our windows (illustrating, I might add, that those windows need their spring cleaning) and letting us know that spectacular sunsets will soon be visible. We are beginning to see the return of the sailboats and motors to the ICWW, as they make their way back to their summer homes. Bald Head, Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, Figure 8 and Topsail are busy ports of call throughout the repositioning of boats and yachts during the spring and early summer. Our phones are ringing at Sea Coast ...

Wow. From the title, this had better be a great post. Today on Topsail Island, our neighborhood of Sunset Harbor had a community work day. I will be completely candid and tell you that my wife, Kathy did not participate in this project. Bugs, perspiration, hauling tree limbs and pulling stumps out of the ground just isn't her idea of fun. We had a great turn out otherwise, most of the homeowners and some of the temporary residents pitched in as well. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect and talk. This is a small neighborhood of only 12 homes. We look out after one another. No land available for sale and no view that we currently have can be compromised. We have serene views of the sound and Intracoastal, although we would have to build an 100 foot pier across the marsh if we wanted...

I would imagine that most of us sit an open house or two these days. The month of April begins prime OH season on Topsail Island. Coldwell Banker Sea Coast, our "mothership" had 210 open houses spread over 4 counties this week end. That is remarkable participation by CBSCR agents and brokers. The weather co-operated and we had a number of people at our open houses both on Topsail and on the mainland. Now, to be considered wildly successful, we need a couple of contracts by the end of the week!We are still very optimistic about the remainder of the year. We are in a primarily second and vacation home market, so for us it is a question of "want" not "need" when it comes to purchasing a home on the island. Of course with the military bases in Jacksonville being only 45 minutes away, we are...
