I spent the 4th of July in Pinehurst, North Carolina this year.  My Raleigh Racket Club Tennis Team won the USTA 4.5 Raleigh USTA championships and qualified for the State Championship in Pinehurst.  It's a hard act to follow after the US Open Women's Golf Tournament at Pine Needles.  What an exciting tournament!  Most of the players stayed at the infamous Pinehurst Inn.   I didn't make my reservations in time but opted for my favorite Bed & Breakfast in the Village called the Magnolia Inn.  Most families don't realize that Pinehurst/Southern Pines Golf Courses are just 1 Hour away from Cary/Apex and an 1 Hour and a half from N. The United States Golf Association made it official when it announced that the U.S. Open will return to Pinehurst No. 2 in 2014.The announcement came at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, site of this year's U.S. Open. The world-renowned Pinehurst Resort previously hosted U.S. Opens in 1999 and 2005. It had been speculated since the final day of the 2005 Open that the USGA would bring the national championship back to the Donald Ross-designed No. 2 course. It was just a question of when.
