The Newton Festival & Events Committee has scheduled the fifth annual Newton NC Citywide Yard Sale for Saturday, May 15, from 7 a.m. to noon at Southside Park on U.S. 321 Business South. The large-scale yard sale will provide a one-stop shopping destination for those looking for great deals. When the event first began, residents were encouraged to hold yard sales at their respective homes during the citywide event, but members of the Festival & Events Committee believe that hosting a centralized event at the park enhances both participation and sales.   Booths, available for $5 each, will be 10-by-10-feet.   Newton North Carolina -  2009 Soldiers Reunion  The Old Soldiers Reunion, or as it's been called since 1930, The Soldiers Reunion, is one of the longest running events of its kind in the United States. The Newton Parks and Recreation Department is looking for teams for the East Newton Heritage Festival Basketball Tournament, scheduled for June 22-25. The double-elimination tournament will be held at the Central Recreation Center, located at 301 S.Ervin Avenue, Newton, NC. They are going to begin the process of hiring almost 600 people.  The Distribution Center is located on NC 10 in Newton. They are seeking applicants for the 580 planned positions.
