Fort Bragg Relocation Work to Begin on BRAC Realignment Construction First Job Fair Thursday March 12th Hensel Phelps Construction Company has posted the first of thousands of job openings that will be required to complete BRAC work over the next three years at Fort Bragg.  What is BRAC? "BRAC" is an acronym that stands for Base Realignment and Closure.  It is the congressionally authorized process the Department of Defense has previously used to reorganize its base structure to more efficiently and effectively support our forces, increase operational readiness and facilitate new ways of doing business.  BRAC will cause Fort Bragg NC (an hour south of Raleigh) to expand significantly.  Construction will begin on a new $286 million building, which will be the new Headquarters for Forces ...

If you are scheduled for a move to Fort Bragg and you need info about great communities near the base with good schools, consider looking in Southern Pines and the other towns in Moore County NC.  Moore County towns are a very short commute to Fort Bragg, and more importantly, they are safe and have very good schools.  Moore County schools rank 6th in the North Carolina out of 100 Counties when it comes to average SAT scores.  The elementary schools and middle schools in the County are the places where kids get the foundation to score so highly.  There are a lot of other great things about Southern Pines that make the quality of life very high.  It is an easy place for newcomers to make a lot of new friends very quickly.  So, before making a final decision about housing, be sure to chec...

Ft. Bragg has accepted the challenge to conserve energy.  The Department of Energy and the Department of Defense is running a campaign asking our miltary to conserve energy.  To accept the challenge, change out your regular light bulbs to the efficient Energy Starr incandescent bulbs.  This will save not only energy but money in the long run as you continue to find other way to conserve.  I have already made the switch so please join me in doing the same.

I received some great news today for those who leave Ft. Bragg using the All American Freeway.  Traffic leaving Ft. Bragg will be detoured to the Gruber Road using the off-ramp and returned to the All American Expressway using the Gruber Road on-ramp.  This closure will change the speed limit from 25 MPH to 45 MPH on the two outbound lanes at the All American Access Control Point.  It seems like we were already going 45 mph but now it won't get you a ticket. Drive safely and enjoy.

I purchased my car 6 years ago unconcerned about the recommended octane.  I'm a 93 octane girl.  With the recent cost of gasoline, it generally costs me about $65+ to fill up my 18 gallon tank.  As a result to keep my feelings from being hurt, I now fill up when it gets half empty.  Well today as I was going to the commissary, I passed the military gas station to see the gas was priced at 3.95, 4.10 and 4.15, respectively.  As you would know the lines were long but I joyfully stopped anyway.  As an added bonus, my gas tank is on the right side of my car while most vehicles fill up on the left.  That gave me a green light for faster service.  When I finally finished pumping my gas, the meter stopped at $51.05.  While that is still equivalent to dinner for 4 at Outback, I know it could ha...

I have "X" televisions in my home of which 3 will be on at any given time.  While I love my CSI and Law and Order (SVU), HGTV seems to be the channel I watch non-stop.  Some of the shows like House Hunters, Property Virgins, Sell this House, Bought and Sold and Designed to Sell are just a few that I can watch over and over for hours.  This week I even saw a new show featuring a couple of high-end house flippers that I would add to my list.  I guess I just love anything Real Estate related.  If you were asked to name your favorite show, what would it be?

Each year Ft. Bragg celebrates the 4th of July as if it were the New Year all over again.  The planning starts after the completion of another because of the spectacular show each year.  This year will be no different on our Main Post Parade Field as the one and only Wynona Judd performs.  Dakota Rain, Rockie Lynn, the Golden Knights and our very own 82nd All American Band will also perform live.  This event is free and open to the public.  I would highly recommend you arrive early since traffic is always so heavy.  The food, fun and rides will begin at 3 p.m.  There are restrictions for pets, grilling and glass bottles and there will be a designated place for tents to be erected.  After all of the festivities are over, the fireworks display will start at 9:30 p.m. to bring the celebrat...

The 7th Special Forces Group will hold the 29th annual Jingle Bell Jog on Friday on Fort Bragg.  This is a long time tradition of the Fort Bragg army community. The 10-kilometer race begins at 9 a.m. Organizers expect as many as 1,000 runners. The race is geared toward runners, but some participants will push children in strollers and lead dogs on leashes in the five-kilometer fun walk.  Running is not required, we try to include all of the family members by offering a walk as well. The event is open to everyone. It begins and ends at the John F. There is a huge buzz around the Fayetteville, NC area right now and a lot of excitment! The troops are beginning to return home to the Ft. Bragg base!  For a little town that basically survives on the military members it has been a hard time with them gone.About 200 members of the 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment and even more members of the 2nd of the 505th have returned this week with the rest of the battalion scheduled to return over this weekend. We thrive on our soldiers around here and they are a big contibuting factor to the Fayetteville, NC economy, not to mention the unforetold service that they have provided to the citizens of our United States. While we are in a buyer's market like the rest of the country, although it was a little slower to become a buyer's market around here du...
