Corolla is still in the running for being the 100th, and final  community ti get a charter school in North Carolina, The Corolla Education Foundation sent an application to the Office of Charter Schools in Raleigh back in February. Representative Owens and Senator Basnight both sent in letters of support for WEVS to the Office oof Charter Schools in Raleigh. At that time they were competing with 16 other applicants. Last Week the Office of Charter Schools a review board voted on the 17 applications, and WEVS was one of the 6 to make it to the final round. The applications have now been sent to the State Board of Education which will review them and choose one to be the 100th charter school in North Carolina.   04/24/2010

  One of the things that still has not been announced yet for the possible Mid-Currituck Bridge is where should it land? Bob Green of www.OBXGreenPoll.com conducted a survey to find out what the public opinion was on where the Mid-Currituck Bridge should connect to the Outer Banks. Here are the results that were email to me. Who Responded to the Survey? 272 residents and non-resident property owners participated in the Mid-Currituck Bridge Landing Survey, the largest number to date for any of the Green Poll community studies. The response was also notably inclusive of Currituck Outer Banks neighborhoods and subdivisions. Earlier this week the wooden ribs of possibly the oldest shipwreck to be found on the Outer banks of North Carolina were moved. On March 17, 2010 HB4867 was introduced being titled "Corolla Wild Horse Protection Act". It has been referred to the House committee on Natural Resources. It has a long way to travel before becoming a law but the introduction of this bill is monumental for the horses. The bill will will change the allowable heard size to a number not yet determined as they are waiting for a formal written recommendation from Dr. Cothran as to a target population range. This is thanks to the efforts of Congressman Walter B. Jones. Congressman Jones has taken action to ensure that the wild horses of the Currituck Outer Banks will remain here for generations to come.   The coastline of North Carolina's Outer Banks is littered with shipwrecks that often appear after a big storm, and then disappear under the sand again. This unusually harsh winter may have uncovered the old shipwreck ever found in NC. Here is an article from UPI.com.
