If you are waiting for a project that is going to be very important for the landscape of the north mecklenburg area keep on reading. I have been following the process and believe that it is getting very close for this massive development to begin. I have included a recent article by a local Lake Norman, NC paper "The Lake Norman Herald Weekly" that updates the projects status.  Cornelius' most highly anticipated development recently celebrated another victory in its long trudge toward final approval. At a meeting April 29, the Technical coordinating Committee, an advisory committee for the Mecklenburg-Union Metropolitan Planning Organization, approved the recommendation of several road improvement projects, including a new interchange on Interstate 77associated with the 2.4 million-squa...

The Technical Coordinating Committee (TCC) of the Mecklenburg-Union Metropolitan Planning Organization (MUMPO) voted Thursday, April 23, to endorse transportation plans for Augustalee. Their approval moves the project an important step forward to the full MUMPO meeting on April 29, at which time we hope another approval will be given. The TCC is composed of staff and managers of the towns, cities and counties of Mecklenburg and Union. They recommend projects to the elected officials of MUMPO, much like a town planning committee recommends projects to the full town board for approval. If MUMPO approves the project on April 29, it will go on the official Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) for the region. "This approval is critical for the success of our project," said Josh Rector, Sen...

I am looking forward to this years Bass Tournament held at Lake Norman NC. The tournament has always been a positive event for the Lake Norman/Charlotte area. It seems that every year it gets more and more attention. Since I live only 5 minutes from Blythe Landing I will be taking my 5 yr old triplet boys to the event for the 1st time. After going on their website I found a few changes to the FLW event. Here they are: FLW Outdoors announced that FLW Tour events will no longer be open to pros entering just one tournament. Pros must commit to fish all six FLW Tour qualifiers. Top payouts in FLW Tour qualifiers will remain $125,000 for pros and $25,000 for co-anglers, including Ranger Cup bonuses of $25,000 and $5,000, respectively. Pro entry fees for 2009 are $4,000 for FLW Tour and FLW S...

Thanks to our consistent rainfall this past winter and early spring, Mecklenburg County has lifted its 19-month restrictions of water use and the rest of the Lake Norman area counties are expected to follow.  Yes, it is now legal to water your lawns and wash your cars according to today's article in the Charlotte Observer.  Although, conservation is always a good habit.  According to this article, single-family home water usage dropped 32% in Mecklenburg County since 2002.   This is today's map from the North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council.  Lake Norman falls in the white area which means normal conditions.  Yellow is Abnormally dry and beige is moderate drought.       Lake Norman Lake Levels today are at 98.2 with a "target" level of 96.9.  With higher water levels ...

Last night was a town meeting that included the talks about the new Augustalee development in Cornelius, NC. Unfortunatley, I was not able to attend because of T-Ball practice, but as soon as I hear any more information I will be passing it along. Augustalee plans call for widening Westmoreland Road and U.S. 21, realigning Bailey Road at Poole Place Drive and building a new segment of Northcross Drive from Jim Cooke Road to Westmoreland Road, according to published legal notices. Developer Cornelius Bromont LLC's Augustalee will be on 104 acres on the south side of Cornelius, between I-77 and U.S. 21. The developer expects the first retail stores to open in fall 2012. Robbins Park is now pre-selling! The Preserve at Robbins Park brings to the fore an idea with deep historical roots. Namely, the concept of a preferred neighborhood bordering a capacious public park, first posed in the 19th Century by the pioneers of classic American urban design. The result is a study in elegant contrasts which combines the luxury of in-town living with a Lake Norman address. Which balances a commitment to the preservation of nature with the tranquility of the home. Which commingles the possibility of more meaningful neighborly connection with the demands of personal privacy. All in the context of an unforgettable natural setting with woodlands, public fields and natural habitats which will give the Preserve at Robbins Park lasting stature, as well as the opportunity f...

I live in the Lake Norman area of Charlotte, NC and would like to get some opinions on whether or not to buy a boat. The lake is large enough to accommodate any size boat. However, I was told not to buy anything less that 24 ft for this lake. It gets quite busy on the weekends and the wakes could rock the boat a little. My wife grew up on Lake Erie and boated most of her life. We do have 5 1/2 year old triplet boys and thought it might be fun to get them out on the water. However, we have heard a number of stories in regards to how expensive it is and that boats have a lot of mechanical problems. My thought though was to go in on it with a partner and split the costs. Since we probably won't be able to use it everyday or each weekend. I have only been on Lake Norman a couple times and ...

One day when I was surfing the web about Lake Norman and Lake Norman real estate I happened upon this great website that sold fun and unusual Lake Norman stuff:  LKN Merchandise.com.  Since I am always looking for new and different types of locally owned and operated businesses to highlight each week I decided to email the company and find out more about it.   It turns out LKNmerchandise.com is the brainchild of a local firm:  Artisan Signs and Graphics located on Old Statesville Road in Cornelius.  Owner Scott Crosbie was kind enough to meet with me and explain more about their company and the Lake Norman Merchandise website.  Artisan Signs and Graphics has been making high quality, custom signage for the greater Lake Norman and Charlotte area for over 15 years. But, it became clear ...
