Open House Etiquette......Some Pointers! So here is the deal with Open Houses, Model Homes etc. We have four houses in my neighborhood all new construction, four different builders, four completely different floor plans.Saturday and Sunday we open them up for people to take a look at, I stay in the sales office. The first thing I do when I get here is go around to all the houses and turn on all the lights, adjust the thermostats, turn on all the sound systems, TV’s etc.I unlock all the back and side doors and screen doors, (I have been locked out of houses and having to walk around to the front in socks...not fun). So, if you are taking a tour of new houses and you walk in and all the lights are on, then it is safe to assume they want them left on.If the door to the unfinished storage is ...

The Tale of Two Breads.......Simple right? Make some bread.... how hard could that be?Having spent a lot of years in the restaurant business it was always a NOGO area when it came to yeast bread or anything that needed to rise, rest, rise, fold, laydown, massage, it was always easier to buy it from the experts.I always wanted to learn the art, but never had the time. Then I came upon this easy, easy recipe, and not in a cook book, not even in a book, in a magazine...about home farms, etc. The bread on the left has 4 ingredients.  Flour, Water, Yeast, Salt. The bread on the right has 18 ingredients, some of which I have never heard of!here we go.Water, Sugar (Hu!) Primo Pizza  recently opened at 226 East Main Street in Clayton and we had heard good things from some very critical pizza experts so we gave them a shot for a birthday party and invited even more critical pizza experts. The Produce Box, Got to be NC Agriculture   Kelly and I have long bemoaned the fact that we live in a state that has great farms and in a county that is mostly rural and is, it seems nurturing an organic farming awakening. And yet the supermarkets are full of produce shipped in from California and Florida, Mexico and Asia. There are many farmers markets out there, Clayton has one, North Hills has one, Raleigh has a couple, so there is the opportunity to get local produce but the big excuse …”it’s not convenient”   always pops up!So we found this great service that delivers a box of fresh local produce once a week or whenever you need it. It’s called The Produce Box and they have a cool system where they work with farmers through out the state of North Carolina and whatever is in season a...

" Why can't I come in to the open house?" This is Tucker. Tucker is from Virginia and his people are thinking of moving to North Carolina. They found Portofino on their way to I95 and came in to check out the trails and some of our houses. Tucker is four months old and he is very well behaved. He came on a trail ride with us in the mule and met two of the horses Krista and Cody....from a distance, he stayed in the mule. He saw the wonderful Clubhouse where he got a drink of water and checked out the salt water pool and veranda, he peed in the grass next to the hundred year old oak trees. Then we took off to see the houses, and much as we love dogs here at Portofino, we ain't letting a dog into the new homes. In fact Steve Corker, the builder of this home had just put the final coat of v...
