I recently had a grandson preparing for dorm life and as always it seems the need to cut costs was on our mind. Here is a column I wrote on the subject of getting ready to leave the nest.     Off to a Dorm?   Many of us have someone off to a dorm this fall. First time “dormers” have a whole new way of life ahead of them and maybe this column will help you prepare for living on your own or sharing a room. First on the list is a call or email to your school to find out all the particulars they already have in place. Shivering and Organizing, What do they have in common? It's time to look for warmer clothes and see if they fit the fashion this fall. What a great time to organize your closets! Now where did you put all those warm things? Piled high in a closet and when you pull one down 4 more come with it? Or did you already organize and they are in bins coded as to color and season? Here are some quick ideas to help sort through our closets for fall and winter. 1. Empty the whole space and pile is groups of the same. 2. Begin sorting the piles into sections, Keep, Donate, Sell. 3.In the Keep File, take the time, right now, to try on everything and decide if it fits properly and if the style and color is dated.
