This the fourth installment of Moose Monday and I had to dig this one from the winter files.  Before you get too much of chilling effect seeing snow in August, let me assure you that the following photo was taken on February 14, 2009.  It was taken by my friend Marisa of Southern California in one of her many visits to Red Lodge in 2009.  She first visited Red Lodge in 2008 and like most visitors who discover Red Lodge, once you visit Red Lodge, you will likely come back again and again.  Her parents liked it so much they actually moved to the area and I helped them purchase their Montana home (it came with a lot more land than they were used to in California!). Have a great Monday! It's Good to Be Here!!   Gerry Khatchikian, ASA, TRC (4 languages spoken: English, French, Spanish, Armen...

Happy Moose Monday from Red Lodge, Montana! This is the follow-up post from last week's: Moose Monday - Bull Moose on the Run in Red Lodge The following photo will give you a better idea of the size of the Bull Moose.  Just remember they are wild animals and you can hopefully tell from the photo why it is recommended to not get too near any of them.  I captured the photo with the zoom feature of my digital camera. It's Good to Be Here!!   Have a happy Monday and a great week! Red Lodge, Montana - Plenty of Horses and Iron Horses! In the photos below are two different types of horses that can be seen a lot in the Montana landscapes and in and around Red Lodge. If you are found of either or both of them, remember that Red Lodge is the host every year to both the Red Lodge Rodeo on the weekend of July 4th and the Iron Horse Rodeo during the weekend around the middle of July. The following photos were taken on Highway 78 (Just Northwest of Red Lodge) and on the same day on July 2009. Which ones would you be more interested to see and or to ride?  The horses or the iron horses? It's good to Be Here!! Rock Creek Resort and Old Piney Dell Restaurant - A Beautiful Retreat and Dining Experience Just South of Red Lodge, Montana Rock Creek Resort is located 5 miles south of Red Lodge, Montana on Highway 212.         The resort is composed of rooms in four main buildings: The Beartooth Lodge, The Twin Elk, the Rock Creek townhomes, the Grizzly Condos.  My favorite is the rooms in the Grizzly Condos who are right next to Rock Creek.  You get to comfortably stay in one of the many nicely furnished rooms with complete kitchens, fireplaces and color televisions.  You can also chose to stay at the Stoney Cabin which is part of the resort.      You will love to hear the soothing sounds of the creek outside the window and you will get to admire the wonderful view of the creek and mountains from y...

Bull Moose on the Run in Red Lodge The following is the first photo of a bull moose to make it into my Moose Monday from Montana. I took this photo in October 2008.  This bull moose was caught running in the Grizzly Peak Mountain Homes subdivision, in beautiful Red Lodge, Montana.  I think he was camera shy.  In the background is Mount Maurice. Next week, I will share a more close-up photo of this bull moose. It's Good to Be Here!! Red Lodge By Night Here are photos I took the night of August 6, 2009.  As I was leaving the office, I noticed the amazing display of colors in the sky.  This was the call to make a detour om my way home to drive on Highway 308 towards Bearcreek and take the following sunset photo from the overlook before it got any darker.  It was a memorable sunset and I enjoyed every minute of it.  I will let the photos do the rest of the talking. Here's another photo of the same scene but with a close up of the mountain and the colorful Montana sky. It's Good to Be Here!! Moon Over Red Lodge - Painting by Mother Nature I love watching the paintings of Mother Nature in the sky here in Big Sky Country.  Each morning at sunrise and each night at sunset is a different painting.  The following photo is a sunset painting taken in Red Lodge, Montana on August 2, 2009.  Thank you Mother Nature! 59th Annual Festival of Nations - Red Lodge, Montana Celebration, Culture, Community The 59th annual Festival of Nations in Red Lodge will be taking place on July 31, August 1 and 2, 2009. The town of Red Lodge has a multi-cultural heritage thanks mainly to the coal mines in the late 1800's, early 1900's which attracted attracted people from all over the world.  These immigrants came to Red Lodge to improve their living conditions and chances for a future. The Festival of Nations is an annual event that celebrates the multi-cultural aspect of Red Lodge.  It usually takes in the early part of August every year.  This year's Festival of Nations promises to celebrate the diversity of cultures with plenty of ethnic food, cultural dances, live music and lots of fun activities. Moose in Red Lodge This is probably one of the best moose pictures taken in Red Lodge that I have and it is not me who took it! It was my brother and my nieces who got to admire this scene during their first visit to Red Lodge while on a little hike. My younger niece Karine was the one who pointed the moose to my brother and he was lucky enough to capture this scene from a distance and from high up (a safe zone to be) looking over the West Fork of Rock Creek just South of Red Lodge. He got many photos of the mother and calf but the following is the one that I liked the best and the one I chose to share on here, on my first Montana Moose Monday post. It's Good to Be Here!! The town of Red lodge was transformed and played host to the Beartooth Rally and Iron Horse Rodeo.  There were bikes from many States and Provinces which were on display on main street.  I decided to  share close-ups of some of the bikes I took during the weekend of the Beartooth Rally and Iron Horse Rodeo.  This is what I named "Art on Wheels". That is how I named the outdoor volleyball camp for which I volunteered to teach volleyball to the members of the Boys and Girls of Carbon County.  Today is the last of 8 lessons (spread over the last 4 weeks) where I will show kids with ages ranging from 7 to 12 years old how to play volleyball. I am a firm believer of giving back to the community and I love working with kids.  So, when they asked me last year to join as a volunteer and help out with the tennis camps, I did not hesitate.  I have been a volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club over a year now and I am grateful to be able to teach them how to play my favorite team sport and one that I enjoyed playing since I was a kid. For more info about the Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County and to check out what is happening at the Clu...

The following photos were both taken on July 15 in Red Lodge, Montana.  It is always a nice end to the day to be able to take the time and enjoy the changing of the colors of the sky at sunset.  On this evening, I noticed the clouds take on a reddish accent right at sunset and was able to capture the moment with my digital camera. As mentioned in the 4th post of a series of post on the Beartooth Scenic Byway, You Never Know What You Are Going to Run Across on the Beartooth Pass (check this post for photos of two other nice surprises).  To see the first of the series of posts and/or to read the entire series, click on the following link: Highway to Heaven - Don't Pass this Up! On our way to Yellowstone along with my brother and nieces on June 28, 2009, this is a photo of the scene that was awaiting us at an elevation of about 10,000 feet near the Red Lodge International Summer Ski and Snowboard Camp. Now, you don't see these along the way on most highways in the US!  It was a very pleasant surprise to see a herd of them and with lots of young ones. It's Good to Be Here!! The following is a slide show of the parade that took place on July 4th, 2009. The days leading and including July 4th are very special in Red Lodge as that is when the Rodeo of Champions take place.
