St. Joseph's newest attraction booms with visitors, and I can see why!  WOW was I amazed when I drove up on the newly opened facility.  The building is so breathtaking even pulling into the parking lot.  The red, high standing structure has a modern, unique look.  Sitting along the Missouri River I assume the reason the building is built on what looks like stilts is to make it "flood proof".  Surrounding the building are beautiful trees, wildlife flowers, a butterfly garden, bridges, an outdoor classroom, a hike & bike trail, picnic tables and much more.  I couldn't wait to go inside!                                     As I walked in the front door I was taken away by the life-sized Mammoth!  I can imagine how the kids have fun with that!  Next on t...

Traveling 1,966 miles is quite a journey traveling by plane or car; can you imagine traveling that on horse back?  Well, between the years1860-1861 this route between St. Joseph, Missouri and Sacramento, California was traveled daily.  Although it was broken down into relay rides of 80-100 miles this is a journey people are still interested in today.  And the history of the Pony Express still remains alive.   Almost 150 years ago the Pony Express legend began.  This was the first type of mail service.  The destinations were located in St. Joseph and Sacramento with stopping points along the way.  A rider would take off and ride the trail taking mail for almost 100 miles, when meeting up with the next rider they would hand off the Mochila full of mail and off the next rider would go.  Th...

They want to be here and they will do what it takes to stay!                                              It is a great asset to St. Joseph!  It gives us all something fun and different to d...

Jessica Tingler was one of the five winners in the Good Morning America sandwich recipe contest this week.  Jessica created her winning sandwich recipe when her boyfriend balked at eating leftover chili.   The winning sandwich named "Hot Dog Chili Cheese Sandwich", with the recipe appearing on the Good Morning America web site. Jessica is a student at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. Alexis Bremer of St Joseph was the winner of The St Joseph News Press Holiday Candy recipe in December, for her "Sweet Sensation" cherry topped cookies. Tuesday morning is Office Meeting and Tour of our new listings for the week, this morning we crossed over the Platte River on 36 Highway in the east part of St Joseph. Northwest Missouri has had heavy 2-3 inches of rain in the last few days and the river banks are overflowing, while the Platte River is out of its banks the flooding is considered minor, with some highway closings.

The weather is beginning to feel like spring at long last...as I glanced across the lake last night I felt my eyes were seeing double.  Area residents will soon be bringing the fishing boats out, along with the kids throwing in their fishing poles, boating in the rubber rafts and canoes.  Life is fun at the Lake especially during the summer.  One of our local churches brings their kids every year and to see over 100 kids fishing and having fun is truly a precious moment.  also, here you can see the local events

Historical Missouri Theater, a $1,000,000 1200 seat  "Movie Palace" opened in 1927, residents had watched the construction for over a year of the extravagant  "open air playhouse" while listing to bizarre stories of the exotic sculpture inside the building done by 20 year old Wayland Gregory.  Publix Theatre Corporation, a division of Paramount, owned the gala theatre.                                                                     The road of ownership was long and rocky for the first 50 years, the building still structurally sound, had fallen into a sad state of neglect. In 1976 a non-profit Town Hall Center, Inc, was organized by a group interested in saving the theater from demolition or conversion into a multi-cinema facility.  It was their int...

Andy DeShon is a rising star of innovation by not taking "no" for an answer, while others complained of fuel prices and global warming, Andy did something about it. Andy became interested in electric motors when his uncle's dealership sold an electric lawnmower manufactured by General Electric.  In the 1980's he began working with battery-powered forklifts in his warehouse job.  In 1998, he started doing serious research and development work on his electric motors and electronics.  You can talk on the phone while you're mowing the yard, as there is no roar of the engine, any puff or exhaust.  Even when the mower blade engages the lawn tractor is relatively quiet. Andy Deshon has been tinkering with the electric tractor innovation for 20 years and has secured patents and exclusive mark...
