if you are looking for great food in the Metro Detroit area then try E G Nicks Plymouth restaurant.  My wife Marianne and I and two of our friends Tom and Debbie Jackett went there tonight.  It was a little muggy after the rain but we still chose to eat outside on the patio.                                    E G Nicksis located on Forest Street which is one street west of Main Street.  It is a quiet street with lots of boutique store, little restaurants, and bars on it.  It is just a short walk from Kellogg Park.   So it's easy to get to and there is lots of parking nearby. E G Nicks Plymouth Restaurantis part of a small group of restaurants that are owned by a group of local  business men.  So the money you spend here is staying in the community unlike many of the chain restaurants. ...

The Box Bar & Grill in Plymouth Michigan is one of the places that people remember about Plymouth.   The Box Bar is a Plymouth Institution.  It used to be a small old time neighborhood Plymouth bar known for it's hamburgers.                                           In the 1990's it underwent a large renovation.  Originally the owners were going to turn the bar into a brew pub.  But brew pubs have kind of come and gone so Chip has changed gears and expanded the beer menu to one of the best in the Metro Detroit area.   Featuring an amazing 700 + beer menu, including 40 draughts from around the world. During the week you might find the Plymouth Backgammon club playing in the back room of the Box Bar & Grill.  And you will find all the local sports teams playing on one of the TV's.  There ...

With the current economy and real estate market we deal with a lot of REO listing agents (for those of you that don't know what that means it means agents who handle bank foreclosure listings).  There are some that are good at their job but there is a percentage of them that are unethical and basically dirt bags.  They don't care about ethics, your clients, their word, simple customer courtesy. Some foreclosure agents will NEVER call you back.  So you never know what is going on with the offer.  Your clients are left in the dark until the foreclosure agent blesses you with a denial email or acceptance.  Once in a while you win one with these agents.  But you have no voice contact.  I never want to be that way.  Communicating with the other agent always makes the deal go smoother.  Some ...

Plymouth MI is a great little town.  What is great about the City of Plymouthis that they are trying hard to keep the old downtown area alive by bringing in people from outside the city to visit.  ( And they are succeeding!)  The way they do that is to have some different festivals throughout the year. The Plymouth festivals are: Plymouth Ice festival The Green festival Plymouth Art in the Park The Chili Cookoff The Plymouth fall festival                                                   Sometimes these Plymouth festivalsdraw a couple of hundred thousand people that shop and eat in all the local Plymouth restaurants.   Even in the frigid cold the Plymouth Ice Spectacular draws huge crowds.  It keeps the local businesses afloat by bringing in outside dollars and makes the old time downto...

Many people love the idea of investing in real estate but are not sure which way to go with their investments. When it comes to real estate you can go from one extreme to the other, having real estate holdings that are liquid like stocks, bonds and other stock market offerings to literal property purchases that are much more permanent.   Property   The first way many people think of investing in real estate is to purchase a piece of land or a home that becomes an investment property.   While property values can fluctuate over the years, the truth is there is only so much property on the planet. With the population always growing, that means over time property will always have great value.    The only problem with purchasing property is the amount of paperwork and money that is involved....

One of the biggest real estate myths is "there is a perfect house out there for you". Let's set the record straight there is no perfect house.  Sure the house may be in the right location, have the beautiful kitchen you want but the rest of the house may need work.  Or the house may be in the school system you want, have the right layout, but not have the right "wow" factor for you. Every house will have at least one issue that isn't right for you.  Whether you are a first time home buyer or seasoned home buyer you want that perfect house.  What I tell people "close" or 4 out of 5 wants is good.  No house is perfect. To illustrate my point I have an older couple I have been showing houses to in Plymouth now and then over the last three months.  We were close once but their kids came ove...

Hard to believe, but we're nearly done with the first quarter of 2009 and the Spring selling season is upon us. The good news is home sales in 2009 continue to outpace 2008 levels in Southeast Michigan. February sales in Wayne County were up 18.4%, Oakland 12.3%, Livingston 27.9% with an overall increase across the MLS of 16.5%. Another good piece of news is that the inventory of homes and condos is way down. Last Summer I had "Search over 70,000 homes..." on my website. Today when I checked the MLS, there were less than 50,000! Average days on the market has also fallen. However, the market remains a challenging one for sellers, which helps explain why there are fewer homes on the market. A fascinating chart by Standard & Poor's graphically shows home prices nationally have dropped 26....

Here are a few Irish Blessings for my friends and fellow Active Rainers.  May today be safe and prosperous for you.  May you enjoy the laughter and friendship of friends and family today.  May your blessing outnumber the shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go.   May you always have walls for the winds,a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire, laughter to cheer you, those you love near you,and all your heart might desire.  These things, I warmly wish for you-Someone to love, some work to do,A bit of o' sun, a bit o' cheer. And a guardian angel always near.  May you have love that never ends, lots of money, and lots of friends.Health be yours, whatever you do,and may God send many blessings to you! Top of the morning to you, and the rest of the day to yourself!" May t...

If you are a home buyer sometimes the best deal may not be a foreclosure.  Right now  in the Metro Detroit real estate market I am seeing some relocation homes at tremendous deals.  One of my clients bought a 4000 square foot Plymouth home built in 2000 with granite counter tops for $385,000.  Under a $100 a square foot for a home under ten years old! But more importantly as a home buyer you really need to look at how much work is needed to bring a foreclosure up to par.  What would you buy?  A Plymouth home ($200,000) that has an updated kitchen, updated windows, and new roof or a Plymouth foreclosure that has no updates for $170,000? If the windows cost $7,000    the kitchen cost  $25,000    the roof cost $8,000  what would you buy? It would cost $40,000 to make the Plymouth foreclosu...
