25th Annual Milford MI Car ShowSeptember 20, 2009Main StreetMilford, MI  48381  Another Wonderful Event!  It is hard to believe that this has been held on Main Street for 25 years in a row.  I (Wendy Valko) personally, want to say "Thank You" to all the volunteers that made this event possible.  I myself have been event coordinator for many years past and know that the preparation for the upcoming year's event begins immediately after the award ceremony and consists of many hours of time.  Without each and every one of you, such an event would not be possible. Beautiful Automobiles began lining up on Liberty St. at aprox. 5:30 am.  Owners (participants) eagerly waiting their green light to enter onto Main Street and for guidance to their parking areas for display and for the socializing...

I going to get a little deep here tonight.  What are we really here for?  What mark are you going to leave on the world?  Let's face it we aren't Albert Einstein or Barack Obama or Mother Theresa or Ghandi.  We are simple people but..... We can still make the world a better place even if it is just small things we do.  Here on active rain we give free information out to buyers and sellers.  We give our time and knowledge to help people.  Sure we have an ulterior motive of getting customers out of it. But other people call too.  People in foreclosure, people who have bought and have issues, people that have questions.  What I say to you is talk to them, sure they don't bring you money but....   Talk to them and spend the time they need to answer their questions.  Sure they may not be a r...

So as a Oakland County first time home buyer you are checking out all the updates, the major items, thinking about how the home fits your family.  But how do you keep all the information straight?  At the end of the showings how do you remember what you saw. Here are my tricks and tips to make you look like a professional Oakland County home buyer.   Keep notes on each house as you go thru it.  Why you like it, what needs work, the good and the bad about the house.  When you get in the car write everything you can about the house. Knick name the house.  The "pink room" house.  Or the "70's house" with the shag carpeting.  Or the "fish tank" house.  Knick naming the house will help you keep them straight.  After seeing 6 houses it becomes confusing.  All the houses run together. If you...

Did you wake up to find yourself in the dark? That's almost as bad as a female using the restroom in the dark and realizing after it is to late that someone left the toilet see up! That's what happened this morning to (no electricity that is) us on the West Side of Milford, along with some in  Hartland & Parts of Brighton. What a scarry feeling, a quick reminder of 9-11. Thank goodness that it was only a glitch in our Electrical Sub Station. Upon speaking with others this morning I heard alot of frustration. Modern day conviences are just that and must be remember as such a luxury. Our modern day luxury of electricty has once again been restored to our town and I personally thank all those who work so deligently to keep the juices flowing. Just one more reason why Milford is such a wond...

I live off of a (mostly) beautiful country road in (mostly) beautiful Milford Township, Michigan and we’ve had a lovely white blanket of snow almost constantly since sometime last November (some say it was October...). Unfortunately, when temperatures start to rise, a whole winter’s worth of litter starts to emerge from the melting snow—and now that litter is many times nastier than it was when it was initially chucked from passing vehicles. Seriously, who still throws garbage from the car window? We ALL need to do our part and pick up garbage when we see it—even if it’s not on our own property.  If we don’t pick it up, people will add to it—that is a given!  Here are a couple of ways to pitch in:   DOWNTOWN MILFORD SPRING CLEANING For those who would like to help keep our little c...

On August 25th, Main Street shop owner Tom Motley passed away and Milford lost a part of what makes it so special and unique. Mr. Motley was a lifelong Milford resident and also the long-time owner of the historic Arms Brothers Store for Men located downtown. Tom Motley was instrumental in creating the Milford we residents know and love. He was a founding member of the Huron Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Milford Downtown Development Authority and the Milford Merchants Association as well as other organizations. He was a hometown boy who worked to maintain the character and essence of our town. "Mr. Milford" was only 69 and even though he was on the cusp of retirement and was soon no longer going to be found behind the counter in his store, I'm sure he would have stayed active and visi...
