East Grand Rapids is a small city, population of 10,784 located just east of Grand Rapids city limits. It has been a desired place to live in the Grand Rapids area for  many years. East Grand Rapids is primarily residential with some commercial business areas.  Many homeowners are attracted by Reeds Lake which plays a prominent role in the community, its award winning public school system, proximity to downtown Grand Rapids, and its overall small town feeling. East Grand Rapids is definitely a community that you can walk to school, the ice cream store, or just around the tree lined blocks to visit the picturesque lakes, Reeds Lake & Fisk Lake.  Homes range in all prices here in East Grand Rapids.  There are small 3 bedroom  bungalows and ranches that were built just before and after WWI...

There's just something irresistible about Roses, the beloved East Grand Rapids, Michigan restaurant on the banks of Reeds Lake.  The charm and colorful history of this unique historic restaurant date back to the turn of the century.  The serenity of the scenery provides little evidence of the main attractions which drew crowds to this portion of the West Michigan lake shore from Chicago and neighboring communities in the early 1900's.  But, believe it or not...the banks along Reeds Lake were once gathering spots for up to 9 houses of 'ill repute' and several gambling casinos. Today, a more subdued and sedate lifestyle defines most of the living along the lake, but Roses Restaurant continues to hold a special place in the hearts of area residents.  Today, the restaurant is owned by the G...

You can tell spring is here in East Grand Rapids.  Many reasons!Real Estate sales are up, homes are selling and life is good right now.  I must admit I was a little worried once the lending market got even tougher.  Credit scores have to be a little better then in the past, most all 100 percent loans went away (however I still know of one for low to moderate income home buyers, check out my blog on time to re-group a lender I know came on and gave us some info) Thank goodness FHA has stayed pretty much the same.  There are homes in EGR that fit the criteria for an FHA loan and this is good.  One of my favorite loans due to the fact the loan is assumable!  So if buying a home with a FHA loan, and lets say you got a 6.2 percent interest rate;  then 5 years from now you decided to sell, so...

After you have done all you're shopping at all the great stores in Gas Light Village, East Grand Rapids Michigan, you will want to visit smooches (we locals just call it smooches) and get pampered.  There is much more to this to this store then I realized.  (One of the benefits of me doing these posts..........I am able to find out things I did not even know and I live and shop here!)   Mia who owns the store lives in EGR. She wanted to create a beauty encounter for mom's.........mom's-to-be and  the on-the-go working woman..............many times we are all of this wrapped in one, over worked body! Therefore the staff spoils the clients who come into Smooches by offering an array of services to make you feel pretty, like you used to feel B.K. (my husbands and my term, before kids).  The...

Yes, you read that right!  Hot Mama is a clothing store in EGR.  If you enter not feeling like a Hot Mama, you will leave feeling like one!  The fashions are geared to woman older then 30 towards all of us mom's or mom's to be.I wish there was a store like this one when I was expecting.  I never wore bows and ruffles before pregnancy; I did not understand why designers thought I wanted to wear them during pregnancy.Their fashions are fun, fresh and yes, and have a tasteful sex appeal.  The sales associates are great.  I went in trying to find a shirt and got so much attention, and everyone was telling me how good I look.  Now how is that for an ego boost! The EGR location is the only one in Michigan thus far and well worth the trip.  Upscale designs that will not break the pocket book ar...

Okay, this is got to be the most fun and relaxing place to go when getting your hair cut.  This place in not just for guy's.......they all have their cosmetology licenses and cater to men and woman. When I went into Jude's  on Saturday morning to get pictures, the place was booming!  People were talking and laughing! What a relaxed atmosphere it was.Click here to view their Mission statement.  When I read this I laughed out loud and then wanted to make an appointment.  However they are on hold with beer serving till they get it approved from the city officials.  (Come on guys let their be beer!)They do have a complementary beer policy and handle this in a responsible way.                                                                                                     The "Jude's hair ...

What a blast this was.  Yesterday (Saturday the 16th) I went into gas light village to take some more photos's of the area, and was thinking WOW it is so busy here.  I was happy to see people shopping at the locally owned stores, restaurants were full of people.  It was a sunny day, but still very cold, but it felt like spring time with all the activity! Then I drove by the lake............that explained it, they were flying kites and taking a dip in Reeds Lake. Yes, we use our Lake all year long.  I walked out on the lake and took some shots.  It was the weirdest feeling (walking on the lake).  All ages were out flying their Kite; it was quite the site to see. When you go to these activities in EGR it reminds you how much community spirit we have and how family oriented EGR is.  It was ...

L. Marie & Co. which stands for Linda Marie (the owner), is a shop in East Grand Rapids, that "dresses you and your home".  You will be very surprised when you enter L. Marie, as there is so much more to offer then you would imagine.  The slogan "dress's you and your home" pretty much says it all.  While shopping at L. Marie you can leave your worries behind, as she pays attention to the little things, Linda picks just the right music and burns a candle to set the mood for a shopping experience that you will enjoy.  The store's appearance is as important to her as the merchandise she selects.  Customer service it top priority, she wants your visit to be more then an outing to the mall.  Linda started her carrier as a custom silk floral designer and has taken this talent to her store in ...

Pronounced -  mā-zon (French for home) Shannon Gulielmi, owner of Maison opened the store in April of 2007 with many of the other merchants on 2237 Wealthy SE.  Her style has a European eclectic flair. Yes, Shannon does make you feel right at "home" as soon as you walk in the door.  What a great unique shop this is.  I personally shop here!  I purchased a necklace last year, and every time I wear it, I get so many complements!  When people ask me where I got it from, I don't mind telling them, because I know they will not be able to buy the same thing.Shannon takes much pride in her store and her retail purchases.  She finds one-of-a-kind merchandise when she goes to New York, High Point and Atlanta.  Ranging from home décor to jewelry, you can surely find that special gift for that ha...

SPICES TEAS'S AND SOUPS..........OHHHH MY!  My visit here is always so much fun!  I love to cook and I love to try new recipes and flavors, and this is just the place to do it with. Bill the manager is very knowledgeable of spices and what they can be used for.  Spice Merchantsin EGR has been open since October 2006.  They have 2 other locations in Ann Arbor and in Saugatuck.  I know this because when I am shopping in the East Grand Rapids location, I hear thecustomers talk about traveling to the Saugatuck location for the last 4 years and are very excited that they have opened a store here is EGR, so they can shop locally. You will find a variety of flavors, as they do hand mix their own blended spices.  They also carry 60 different kinds of teas and have soup mixes, rice blends and gr...

2237 Wealthy Street SE, is a horse shoe shaped street, in the center of EGR with many exciting stores to choose from.  Eventually, there will be residential and office space added to this area.  Pedestrian friendly, with heated sidewalks, cobble stone paths, outdoor sculpture's and a Regatta Plaza are all just steps away from Reeds Lake.  You truly get the urban shopping experience when you visit Gas Light Village.  One of the Sculptures you will find at the rear/center of this shopping plaza is a sculpture called the Regatta.  Jade Pig hired 2nd Globe Studio's to design this piece of art made of steel, aluminum and fiber glass.  When walking on the pebbled path, facing the art, it makes quite the impression, the colors are so vibrant, and truly catch the vibe of EGR.  In the summer the...
