Wixom Lake is an all sports lake located in Michigan. It offers approximately 2000 acres to boat and fish. There are some great swimming locations in the water... and some of the waterfront homes have awesome sandy beaches...... When I was growing up, our area was always referred to as "Mid Michigan" We have Mid Michigan Community college and many area businesses use the term as well. Billings Township is located in Gladwin County MI. The school district for this area is Beaverton Rural Schools. Many of the Wixom Lake waterfront homes are located in Billings Township, along with Tobacco and Hay Townships. Wixom Lake extends South into Midland County, and those waterfront homes and cottages are in Hope Township. Beaverton, Michigan located in rural northern Michigan is a great community all year long, but it is ablaze with the colors of Autumn in September and October!  What a great time to come visit!  I would suggest checking out the Wild Pumpkin while you are here.  The Wild Pumpkin is located at the Hedrick Family Farm on Beaverton Road in Beaverton.  They offer rides on a hay wagon out to the field to pick out your own pumpkin at .25/lb!  While they have a great selection of pumpkins at affordable prices they also offer an animal petting farm where the kids and adults can feed animals such as horses, llamas, sheep, rabbits and various birds.  There is even pony rides on the weekends!  My personal favorite at the Wild Pumpkin is the corn maze!  It is tricky for all ages and lots of fun.   ... 10/16/2009

In the late school year of 2008 about 8 people sat a table in the Beaverton Bowling Alley in Beaverton, Michigan discussing the need to fill a gap at the Beaverton School.  These people were not all friends but certainly knew each other and definitely had the common interest of providing our kids the best school experience possible.  Sure there was a PTO which provided much needed funds for transporting our kids to field trips and providing necessary and wish list supplies to our classrooms. There is also a Sports Boosters club that provides necessary sporting equipment that enables our kids to compete with the best athletic equipment and on the nicest fields in the best possible conditions.  But where is the school spirit?  It seemed to fade with each passing year and for the benefit o... 10/06/2009

Deer season is here now and will continue in some form through the end of the year. Please don't shoot ones with spots! It's very common for deer to cross in front of you (sometimes dangerously so) as you're driving down just about any road here in Gladwin County.
