No matter how fast the dog runs, it will never catch the car.  The dog will never slow the car down.  And, the dog will never bite a moving tire.  What must the dog be thinking? Today, many sellers are running after the market, the same way dogs chase vehicles. What are these sellers thinking?  Their home is the only castle for sale?  Buyers will love the scent of their lilac bushes so much that it will temporarily cause them to forget the competition?  Is it possible the smell of fresh baked bread will cause a buyer to pay yesterday's price in today's market? In my opinion, it is impe...

The beauty and rich history of this traditional neighborhood makes it an excellent choice for discerning buyers in Portland. Portland is the most populated city in Maine with around 65,000 residents. Portland’s Downtown is the center of work and play for many area residents, as well as a destination of tourism for millions of visitors each year. The Downtown area is home to a mix of small businesses and larger companies, but there are some condos and multi-family dwellings for sale. At a median price of 220K, a condo in Downtown Portland can provide all the conveniences of living in a much larger urban area at a fraction of the price. A hub of cultural opportunities in southern Maine, Downtown Portland has nightlife, great restaurants and coffee shops, art galleries and interesting boutiques. Open parks and green spaces add to Downtown Portland’s friendly atmosphere. It is a pedestrian and bike friendly city,...

As the markets continue to chug along here in Maine.. residential real estate in Portland Maine posted some average results for the 1st quarter of 2011 as a total of 102 homes and condos sold compared with 136 a year prior and thus representing a volume drop of 25%. Despite the slackening demand.. perhaps largely attributed to the harsh and snowy winter we endured.. median prices statistically jumped 8% from 206K in 2010 to 222K this previous quarter. Going forward I suspect we shall see some very strong figures as April has been extremely busy and it seems this will continue for the foreseeable future! Greetings from the great and frigid state of Maine!  For the month ending January 2011.. the housing market in Portland saw a total of 35 residential real estate transactions transpire which all things considered was pretty good given it snowed approximately 25% of the time! What market segments continue to be the best?  Definitely real estate in the East End as well as downtown Portland Maine condos.  It seems baby boomers want accessibility coupled with intown living.. go figure :) Median prices continue to stabilize and as Portland continues to make national headlines as a great place to live and a great place to invest... watch for continued improving overall marketplace conditions.

It's no secret to anyone who knows me, I like technology. I am constantly evaluating new products to see how I can apply them to my business and personal life. Smart phones have been revolutionary in how they have allowed me to manage my business as a real estate agent while I'm on the road. While I have used a number of smart phones, the IPhone is currently my platform of choice. These are the top 5 Apps that I have found helpful for clients while they are looking for property. Evernote is a fantastic web-based program. It is used for taking text notes, voice notes, and photos. You can have multiple notebooks (so you can set up one as 'house prospects'). You can then import snapshots, notes you take while at the property and voice notes. You can even import pdf documents, so you can ha...
