Why is Takoma Park Maryland such a wonderful place to live?  Takoma Park was founded in 1883 and was a getaway spot from the hectic city life of Washington D.C.  Takoma Park Maryland features Victorian and bungalow style homes tucked into rolling hills along Sligo Creek. Sligo Creek Parkway is adjacent to the creek next to paved walking trails and beautiful parks. On sunny weekends, Sligo Creek is full of people enjoying the miles of greenspace in the center of this unique city in Maryland. Takoma Park Maryland is a diverse city with about 17,700 residents. Most of the time I stage vacant homes and condos in Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Maryland and DC but every now and then, I am asked to stage a property with furniture.  Such a property came my way in mid-December and I eagerly took on the challenge.  After reviewing the home and furniture, I developed a custom staging plan and recommended few furniture pieces to be removed (too big, color was off), walls needed to be toned down and furniture moved around the home. The walls were painted as requested just after the holidays but when I returned to the home to stage it in early January, NONE of the furniture had been moved or removed as I requested.  So before I could get into staging using my furniture and accents, I had to figure out where to place things.   The first room you see upon en...

I just came off of a great summer with lots of busy staging projects.  But I received the coolest news a few days ago - one of the buyers wanted to purchase some of the furniture I used to stage the home. Which is perfect! You see - I am fortunate enough to have a wonderful furniture store as my partner in staging.  They have allowed me to rent their new furniture for use in staging projects.  The idea behind it is that someone will be so moved by what they see that they want to just purchase it all. And it finally happened!   I selected this neat mid-century feeling bamboo table in the dining space. The table is round as in the picture here, but each section 'opens up' to a corner, making the table go from round to square. Its very cool!   During staging, I remember saying to myself th...

Well, I'm excited to report that neither my clients nor I play any roles in this drama anymore.  There has been an unexpected turn of events, and from now on, we're just going to lean back and watch the show. A week and a half ago, I wrote a somewhat desperate [members only] blog about preparing an offer on a very charming but outrageously overpriced house whose seller was her own agent.  She was blinded by love and pride.  (Or SAD,  Seller Agent Dementia,  thanks,  Andrew!)  Her former home was the only larger house in the historic district my friends and clients were interested in, and there hadn't been another one on the market in a long time.  All you Rainers' comments were so comforting and encouraging, and I was getting ready to offend her in as nice and professional a way I could...

When the 60’s turned into the 70’s and we re-elected President Nixon, most of the hippies in the Washington, DC area moved to Takoma Park, circled the wagons, and declared the place a nuclear-free zone.  Then they elected Sammy Abbot, a leftie who was blackballed during the McCarthy era as their mayor.  He reigned for a couple of decades and now has a municipal building named in his memory. This town sits on the DC/Maryland line, and it has a mix of wonderful old Victorian homes, Sears bungalows, and a few mid-century architectural statements.  And there are a lot of aging hippies who still live there. Many of the early 1900’s homes have been updated, as the flower children of the 60s picked up law degrees, real estate licenses and six figure incomes.  But the flavor of the place is still...
