Editing Flower Pictures with iPiccy   All of us that are in real estate know that editing will improve any photograph that we plan to use in marketing materials.  We also know that we must present a true picture of the property so the images will not be misleading. When we take photographs for personal use, there are no editing rules other than to enjoy to process and to have fun with colors.  Those that follow my blogs know that I use a lot of flower photographs in my blogs and in my comments.  I use the free photo editing service of iPiccy.com and recommend it to you if you are not currently editing your photographs. So, my advice is to enjoy your camera and be creative with your photo editing.  These two dahlia photographs were taken at the Dahlia Show at Brookside Gardens in Montgom...

Kentlands Named "Best Gaithersburg Neighborhood"   Dolores and I have lived in the Kentlands neighborhood in Gaithersburg, Maryland for many years and love the community.  It is always nice to hear nice things about the community that you call home.  Bethesda Magazine named Kentlands as the "Best Gaithersburg Neighborhood" in its annual Best of Bethesda issue.  Lakelands and Washingtonian Woods were the runners up in the category. Two Kentlands businesses earned spots on the Best of Bethesda lineup as well. Red Door Spa won Best Gaithersburg Salon and Bonefish Grill won Best Gaithersburg Restaurant.  The winners were selected by over 10,000 people that voted for their favorites in many categories. Kentlands is a neo-traditional community that is among the favorite areas for families tha...

Snowy Day Project:  Decorate a Wildlife Tree   The kids in the family and the neighborhood will love making edible ornaments to decorate a wildlife tree to treat your feathered and furry friends in the community.  There are no limitations on design ideas or on contents and artistic skills are not as important as the purpose of the project. One of the best examples that I have seen of a wildlife tree is one that was decorated at Longwood Gardens.  Your tree does not need to be this fancy to be just as effective.  Have fun and help the wildlife cope with the winter weather. Please share your wildlife tree ideas in your blogs and emails.  A real estate professional could easily sponsor a wildlife tree project in a neighborhood. Ready for snow in Maryland We had about an inch of snow this morning and clearing the walks and driveway was not difficult work.  However, it is very cold and much more snow is predicted for tomorrow. These photographs are from a previous season and remind us of the challenges and the beauty of deep snow in Kentlands, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Be prepared and put safety first as we face more severe winter weather.  Be sure to have your camera in hand to capture the special moments. Expecting snow in Maryland It is very cold in Maryland.  Snow is predicted for tonight.  The morning rush  hour may be a difficult time in the metro area of Washington, DC.  Be very careful if you have to be on the road.  A better idea to stay home and read a good book as you sit by the fireplace. Always have your camera in hand to capture those special moments as you are out and about in your community and your travels. Cleaning An Egged Car    Every now and then cars in our neighborhood have been egged.  So, many have asked how to remove the eggs. Ted Blitgen provided these tips for his Kentlands neighbors A solution for removing the egg:If you've ever been victimized by neighborhood pranksters or vandalism, you've likely had your car egged. While discovering an egged car is nerve racking, trying to remove the egg and yolk creates further irritation. The key is to remove the egg stain shortly after the incident. However, if the egging occurred overnight, or while you were out of town, the yolk will crust, making removal twice and hard. Here are a few tips for removing egg from cars, without ruining the paint. Step 1: If possible, do not allow the egg to sit on the car for an extended period, especiall...

Skating Prohibited on the Kentlands and Lakelands Lakes The frozen lakes may look inviting, but please do not attempt to play or skate on any of the lakes in Kentlands and Lakelands.  The ice could give way and you would fall into freezing water!  If this were to happen, it could prove fatal before rescuers could reach the scene.  Talk to your children about the extreme danger of playing on the ice or the rocks surrounding the lakes. Even though the ice looks stable, our lakes double as a storm drainage network. This means that the level of water under the ice may be lowering.  In addition, the water is constantly moving under the ice, thus further contributing to a very dangerous environment.  An adult can lose motor skills within a minute of being in freezing water and it's even faste...

Tulips in the Rain - Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden Cold rainy days in the winter bring wishes for the colorful days of spring that we are anxious to enjoy.  All of us in Maryland will be watching for the tulips to bloom and the spring showers that will make the flowers grow. Those of us that live in the Kentlands community in Gaithersburg appreciate the presence of many lovely gardens and the flowers that will brighten our days. Many of us try to schedule day trips and weekend adventures to places that will allow us to escape from the pressures of business.  When you travel to the Richmond, Virginia area, one of the very special places to visit is Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.  The Conservatory is always filled with beautiful flowers and plants and the gardens will be very colorful in ...

Holiday Party with the du Ponts at Longwood Gardens   Christmas celebrations at Longwood Gardens date back to December 23, 1921.  A Longwood Christmas is an annual exhibit that celebrates the holidays with beautiful floral exhibits. Imagine an invitation to a holiday party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Peirce du Pont.  The ladies would be wearing their latest gowns from Paris.  The table in this photograph is 64 feet long.  The table decorations are preserved roses, vases of winter flowering begonia, white moth orchid hybrid, brake fern and silver willow branches.  The building is the Conservatory at Longwood Gardens. Dolores and I love our visits to Longwood Gardens, in Kennett Square, PA at any time of the year.  A Longwood Christmas changes each year and is an exhibit that you will want to ...
