Montgomery County, Maryland COVID-19 Update 5/12/2021County to Offer Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine to Residents 12-15 Years OldThe Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is now available to anyone 12 and older. Pfizer is the only vaccine that has been given emergency use authorization for young people who are 12 – 15 years old.If you preregistered on the County website, we will invite you to schedule an appointment. We will contact people on the preregistration list, including 12- to 15-year-olds, within the next week.  Registrants who are 12 to 18 years old must have permission from a parent or guardian to receive a dose of the vaccine and provide proof of their age when they arrive at a vaccination clinic. Our Visit to Shoppers It was time to get a new supply of wine and beer and I decided to visit our local Shoppers Food Warehouse store in Germantown, Maryland. They have a nice selection of wine and beer. Chef Dolores went with me to do some grocery shopping. It was her first time in a grocery store since last March. How times have changed when a trip to a grocery store becomes a special outing.During the pandemic, we have relied upon family shoppers and delivery services for most of our needs. No Arm Left Behind in Maryland: Vaccinations Without Appointments At today’s meeting of the Board of Public Works, Governor Larry Hogan announced that, as part of the state’s “No Arm Left Behind” initiative, eligible Marylanders can now get vaccinated without an appointment at any of the state’s 13 mass vaccination sites.As of today, Maryland has reported 4,996,199 total vaccinations. Maryland Magicicada Months: May and June, 2021 The approaching emergence of billions of 17-year cicadas in Maryland and nearby states will provide fodder for scientists to study, allow residents to help researchers spot the swarms, and may liven up dining since there are even recipes featuring the insects. Gov. Larry Hogan on Friday issued a proclamation declaring May and June 2021 as Maryland Magicicada Months to generate public awareness about the insects.
