More Cherry Blossoms Planted in Crofton, Mayland   Have you noticed the new cherry trees planted between Layton Street and Tarrytown Drive in Crofton, Maryland? Perhaps not, since they were planted after the blooming season in Spring. Katherine Callahan was the driving force behind Crofton's first cherry trees, planted along Crofton Parkway in the community's early years. Katherine was a founding member of Crofton Village Garden Club, and the club recently planted several new trees to replace others that had become damaged or diseased.  Those original trees were planted with funds donated by home-owners, but the recent planting was funded by Crofton's 50th Anniversary House Tour, which the garden club sponsored in December 2013. If you don't have any school-age children in your household, you may not realize that most Anne Arundel County students in grades 1-9 will start school tomorrow, August 25, 2014. Crofton Elementary is the only local school where opening is delayed, but just one day until August 26, when the high school students will also start school. Kindergarteners have a staggered schedule until after Labor Day. Expect slight delays in getting to work as school buses and carpools are on the road again, after a two-month hiatus. Those pesky crossing-guards will be out in force, too. Well, the data is in, and May 2014 shows another steady gain in SOLD listings in Crofton, MD over the same period for 2013. As a matter of fact, January 2014 is the only month so far that hasn't exceeded sales in the same period in 2013.  Last year the inventory levels were exceedingly low, contributing to the weaker sales.
