Nothing like good food at the end of a summer Saturday, and there will be plenty of beef, fried chicken, ham, hot dogs, and side dishes at the CRCC Bull Roast on Saturday night. The event will be held at the Elks Lodge, 1506 Defense Highway in Gambrills, MD on Saturday, July 31, from 7-11 p.m.  But you can expect more than food and networking with other area residents.  There will be door prizes, a DJ, 50/50 raffle, cash bar and more.  All this for just $30 at the door! Fundraising events for the CRCC are keeping us busy in Crofton, Gambrills, and throughout the area, as local volunteers work to raise money for the planning and building of a community center to serve area residents., both young and old. The facility will be located next to the Crofton Library on land leased from the co...

The burgers and fries are so darn good at Five Guys in Crofton MD, that it never occurred to me to try their hot dogs 'til I found out July is National Hot Dog Month. Check out this photo of my Sunday lunch... You are looking at a bacon cheese dog with onions, ketchup, mustard, and fries.  Believe me, it tasted as good as it looks!   Five Guys is relatively new to the Crofton Md area, and I decided to visit there for the first time after reading Rich Iarossi's Activerain post about a year ago (Sorry, Rich, I can't find it now to include a link).  If you've never visited a Five Guys near you, you simply don't know what you're missing. There are several locations near Crofton, including Bowie, Odenton and Annapolis Mall.  In fact, this one is technically in Gambrills at 1131-A Rt. 3 North...

What’s my home worth?  That’s the question every Crofton homeowner wants to ask… but they’re not sure they want to know the answer.  The only way to answer that question, of course, is to have an appraisal or market value analysis that takes into account the features, size, and condition of the property as well as the real estate market.  Let's take a look at that market over a period of six months.   CROFTON (21114) REAL ESTATE MARKETYear to Date thru June 2010  Home Sales in Crofton MD were up last month, as expected, due to a June 30 deadline for the tax credit.  But the real estate market in Crofton has seen its share of ups and downs this year, that’s for sure:   When it comes to Crofton home prices, they have consistently run higher in 2010 than they did in 2009, every month excep...

Homes that have completed the foreclosure legal process frequently revert back to the bank, if they're not perviously sold at auction. While Crofton, MD doesn't have a significant number of bank owned properties, some are always available for preview and purchase. Crofton, MD has had a total of 150 homes that have sold since January 1, 2010. Of these, 13 were bank owned (foreclosure) sales. This equates to 8.6% of total sales. The process of purchasing a bank owned property is well documented, and varies only slightly from a normal resale. The fact that there hasn't been many foreclosures in Crofton, MD has tended to help keep property prices stable. As of today, July 18, 2010, the map below shows the seven properties that have been foreclosed on in Crofton, MD. These properties are ava...

Crofton, MD is a terrific destination point for local buyers as well as buyers coming into the area for the first time. Along with a wonderful inventory of homes, Crofton, MD is situated pretty much right in the middle of the Washington, DC and Baltimore corridor. Add Annapolis about fifteen minutes away to that huge plus and you have one of the main reasons buyers choose Crofton, MD. Like many other communities in the area, Crofton, MD is made up of several sub-divisions. Some older, some newer, but all in Crofton. One of the most unique sub-divisions is Walden. Walden is made up of a combination of condos, townhouses and single family homes. Surrounding a golf course, Walden homes were built in the 90's and offer many of the features buyers are looking for today. Today, there are 24 h...

The Crofton, MD rental market is blazing right now. Quality, affordable rentals are very hard to come by. I'm getting calls and emails every day from people looking for decent rentals in the area. Many military families are being relocated and will be working at Ft. George G. Meade, or the NSA. Some as a result of the Base Realignment and Closing initiative (BRAC), and others with their Permanent Change of Station orders.Crofton, MD is an excellent choice for renters. Located about 15 minutes from Ft. George G. Meade, Crofton has a lot to offer both buyers and renters. Crofton has a nice selection but only 13 rental homes in the current inventory. This is a pretty small inventory for a community this size. The map below shows all of the homes for rent in the Crofton, MD home inventory. ...

If you haven’t visited The Nautilus Diner yet, why not put it on your calendar for Wednesday, July 14.  That’s when the next meeting for Crofton Regional Community Center (CRCC) is scheduled, and The Nautilus Diner is hosting it at 6:30 p.m. Nautilus is located on Route 3 at the intersection with Rt. 424.  It’s open round-the-clock on Fridays and Saturdays, and 6 a.m. –  1 a.m. Sunday thru Thursday.  My personal favorite is breakfast - there’s just something about that diner environment and pancakes that seem to go together –  and breakfast is served any time.  Of course, they also have extensive lunch and dinner menus. (Click on the breakfast photo to view their menu online.)   On Wednesday evening, you can “kill two birds with one stone” (as the saying goes)...  Have dinner at The Nau...

Military families who live in Crofton are just a half hour from three different military commissaries:  Naval Station Annapolis, Fort Meade, and Andrews AFB. (...Not to mention other family-friendly facilities at these three locations.) It's so easy to be lazy and shop at the nearest grocery store - I did that sometimes even when Larry was on active-duty and we were (always financially challenged) young newlyweds.  Since he retired, we've seldom shopped at the commissaries even though we have that option. My refrigerator and cabinets were very empty today, so I needed some staples as well as the week's groceries.  That was enough to motivate me to make the 15-mile trip to Annapolis to the commissary at Naval Station Annapolis.  (Photo left) What a savings!  Gas at the Navy Exchange was ...
