Crofton Woods is a wonderful sub-division located within the Crofton Triangle. While most of the homes in the Crofton Triangle were built in the late 1960's to early 1970's, Crofton Woods homes were built in the mid 1990's. Not only do home owners in Crofton Woods have the advantage of being in the triangle, they also enjoy the benefits of newer homes.Surprisingly, Crofton Woods doesn’t have a paid home owners association.Crofton is also about 15 minutes from Annapolis and the varied leisure activities of the Cheasapeake Bay. Ft. Meade, one of the largest employers in the State, and projected to grow by about 22,000 additional jobs in the coming decade, is located about fifteen minutes from Crofton, MD. When the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) is completed, Ft. Meade will employ mor...

Big Fish Grill was one of the first new restaurants we tried when we moved to the Bowie area in 2008.  It quickly became my family’s favorite local restaurant. The restaurant offers a varied menu of typical seafood options, sushi, and even pizzas. We tend to visit during the day on Saturday when the restaurant has happy hour.  This means that all appetizers are 1/2 price.  My family likes this because we can sample several different appetizers as our meal.  My favorite is the Bangkok Shrimp which is sweet and spicy.  Happy Hour runs from 3-7pm weekdays (8pm on Friday) and weekends from 11am-7pm. On the regular menu we all have distinct favorites!  My son & dad loves the crab cakes, my daughter and I love the pasta, I love the cream of crab soup, and my husband loves the sushi and the fr...

Open for two months now, Poncho n Pepe’s is still rocking the Crofton, MD restaurant scene.  Taking over the location vacated by Jaspers Restaurant, at the intersection of Rt. 450 and Rt. 3N, Poncho n Pepe’s couldn’t have found a better place to put a restaurant. You can tell by the parking lot, which is crowded every night. This Mexican themed restaurant has been a hit since day one with Crofton residents and visitors to the area. How can you not like Margaretias and Mexican food in a remodeled restaurant? My first visit did include the Stuffed Jalapeno Pepper appetizer, the Black Bean soup and a Burrito Gordo. The Margarita was frozen and salted...and oh so good. It certainly looks like I'll have to return many times so I don't miss any of the outstanding selections. Poncho n Pepe’s164...

When my family moved to Crofton, MD a little over twenty years ago, we used to drive by Shoreline Seafood quite often. Right in the center of Rt. 3 north and south... you can’t miss the building even if you tried. It’s close to my home and I still pass it many times a week. We would always remark that we needed to stop there for dinner one night...and we did, only to find out it wasn’t a restaurant, but a fresh seafood store. What a find it’s been since than. The freshest seafood around, and a selection that can’t be beat.Their specialty is fresh, steamed crabs with Old Bay seasoning. Buy them by the dozen or the bushel, Shoreline can handle any order, quickly and efficiently. One of my favorite seafood selections is their Orange Roughy and their Tuna steaks. Besides those, there are ma...

Many Crofton residents will be celebrating July 4 in their own neighborhoods and throughout the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan areas.  Fort Meade, Allen Pond and the City of Annapolis are probably the closest destinations, but the Baltimore Harbor and Washington Mall will be a popular destination, too. Children's rides are free beginning at noon. A DJ will perform from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. The band "New Monopoly" will perform from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase by a variety of vendors. About fifteen years ago, Little Caesars exited the very competitive pizza market here in the Crofton, MD area. They didn’t go out of business, but the franchise moved over a few towns. And while the pizza competition is stronger than ever, look who’s back in Crofton now. Little Caesars. That’s right, Little Caesars opened a new store in the strip mall on Rt. 424, taking over a building that was previously a bank building. No, they don’t keep the pizza in the old vault. Now here’s the really neat thing about this location...they have DRIVE THRU PIZZA. Yep, drive thru...just go around to the back of the 7-11 and you’ll find the Little Caesars speaker ordering system. And yes, they hand it out thru the old teller window. How neat is a drive thru pizza.Little Caesars has an economy pizza tha...

You're going to love Crofton, MD and the diversity of housing available for both first time home buyers, and move up purchasers. Crofton, MD is a destination point for buyers relocating into the area. Crofton's location couldn't be better. Situated halfway between Washington, DC, and Baltimore; and only ten minutes from the water oriented activities of Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay. Crofton homes are some of the most sought after in the area.Crofton Commons is one of the townhouse communities located inside the "Crofton Triangle." The "Crofton Triangle" is that area bounded by Rt. 3, Rt. 424, and Rt. 450. Active listings in Crofton, MD continued the downward trend dropping 4 from last week to only 80 Active listings today. Once again, sellers should be welcoming this news...especially if their listing is priced right, and in good condition. There are still no foreclosures and the number of short sales dropped from 15 to 13. Considering the number of homes sold in Crofton, MD in 2005 and 2006, I’m sure there are a number of homeowners currently underwater on their mortgage. The robust rental market stayed at only 19 units available, since 7 new rentals came on the market, while 7 also were rented. An additional 5 applications were registered, putting even more pressure on the low rental inventory. For the second week in a row, 10% of the inventory sold and settled last week. Yes, 8 homes se...

As a local Crofton, MD resident, and a full time real estate agent who works in Crofton, I much prefer to use local businesses whenever I can. One of those local businesses I’ve used is the Family Bike Shop. The service, and selection of bikes and biking related supplies, is much better than you’ll get at one of the big box stores. They know bikes, and make excellent recommendations.Whether you’re Mountain biking, commuting, racing or just want to cruise the streets of Crofton, the Family Bike Shop has the right equipment for you. They have some new tee shirts that say "I love Crofton Parkway." As you know, The Parkway is one of the favorite locations for bikers, walkers and joggers in all of Crofton. Since I live on Crofton Parkway, I would love to get one of the shirts...I just need t...

Crofton, MD isn't usually the hotbed of distressed property sales. We tend to be a bit insulated because of high government employment in the area. That being said, almost 18% of the current Crofton, MD Active Homes for Sale are distressed properties, either foreclosures or short sales. The Short Sales are the vast majority at 14. No surprise here that most of the Short Sales were purchased in 2005 - 2006. Like the rest of the country, these were the years where prices were highest. Neighbors of the championship golf course at Crofton Country Club have been asking "What's going on?" for the past month, as they've watched busy workers replace golfers on the fairways.  The answer:  a comprehensive renovation of the golf course and conversion to Zeon Zoysia turf. The golf course re-opened for limited play very quickly, but today marks the grand re-opening for full play by Crofton Country Club members, with slightly modified rules that have been distributed to golfers.  Reciprocal arrangements with other clubs remain in effect through the end of June, however, if members prefer to wait until the new growth is a little farther along. If' you live anywhere in the greater Crofton area, contact me for information about membership at Crofton Country Club.  Timing couldn't b...

Gold’s Gym, located at 1625 Crofton Center is one of the busiest gyms I’ve ever seen. The parking lot is crowded every time I drive by. And for those of you who didn’t catch the reference...”every time I drive by.” Huge difference between that and “whenever I stop in.”I was a member and have nothing but respect for the facility, and the people who use it on a regular basis. It has everything a world class gym should have. The trainers are excellent, and the gym is clean and affordable.Anybody new to Crofton probably doesn’t know that the building housing Gold’s Gym used to be a one screen movie theater. Without space to expand to the multi-screen formats so popular today, the theater had to close it’s doors. I think it’s kind of ironic that a gym opened on the same spot that had years o...

Crofton home sellers can be optimistic about selling because the Crofton real estate market showed improving trends in some key areas last month, most notably the number of homes that sold and settled. Closed sales were up over 12% from last year, and higher than any May over a five year period. New listings were down to the lowest figure for any May in five years, which is a good indicator that supply and demand may be headed towards some kind of balance and a "normal" real estate market. Days on Market were down over 23% from the same month last year, back to 2008 levels. Crofton home buyers will still find a nice home in Crofton at a modest price, compared to other country club communities in the DC or Baltimore suburbs.  Prices are not yet showing an upward-bound trend, but the pric...

The Active listings in Crofton, MD remain low at 84, as they have pretty much the entire year so far. That has to be good news for sellers, since there is pretty strong competition for well priced listings in good condition.Foreclosures are down to zero now, but short sales have crept up to 15. An unusual situation for Crofton, but reminding us that we’re not immune to outside forces even though we live in a pretty high employment area.Rentals continue on their robust march. While there were three new rentals that came on the market, 5 were rented and 7 had applications registered. If you’re in the market for a Crofton rental, you can’t wait.9 houses SOLD and went to settlement last week in Crofton. If you think about it, that’s 10% of the active listings. Last week was a pretty good w...
