Christmas Tree Lighting in Crofton, Maryland - December 2, 2013 Don't miss the Christmas Tree lighting tomorrow night, December 2, in front of Crofton Country Club, at 7 p.m.  This has been an annual tradition since my children were small, and now it's become a family tradition for our grandchildren. It's a great time, and you don't want to miss it - even if you don't have children in your household. Enjoy caroling by the children's choir of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish prior to the tree lighting, and a holiday party in the clubhouse after Santa's arrival aboard a fire truck. A local band, Pocket Change, will provide holiday music while children visit Santa, and there will be refreshments, two clowns, and arts and crafts for kids to enjoy while waiting their turn with Santa. If you happened to be driving along Route 3 in Anne Arundel County last Saturday, June 2, you probably wondered what all those people were doing in front of Crofton.  They were Crofton residents participating in a planting day for the community and helping to put the finishing touches on a rain garden. A rain garden has been discussed in this community for years and finally gained momentum over the past two years, as local leaders obtained professional advice from engineers, landscapers, and environmentalists.  Construction began in May after a grant was obtained for funding and Crofton Village Garden Club donated $3,000. The purpose of this project is to reduce and mitigate storm water damage to creeks, streams, rivers and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay by diverting rain water run-off f...

Crofton Home Sold In One Day!  The marketing flyer was prepared but not yet printed, the photo slideshow was made but not yet posted to my blog, the YouTube video was submitted but not yet processed, the photo postcards for targeted mailing were made, addressed and stamped, but not yet mailed.  An agent open house was the one marketing activity that I had a chance to complete.  But I'm not complaining.  The first prospect to view my new listing after it went into MRIS yesterday wrote an offer. The offer was presented, countered, and accepted tonight. It sounds quick and easy, but it really wasn't - especially for the seller. The seller and her family invested two months in preparing the home for sale.  It took a lot of physical and emotional energy to sort through and pack a lifetime of...

Crofton area residents can put their natural Christmas trees, wreathes and garlands out for pick-up by Anne Arundel County on the normal recycling day. Christmas trees: Be sure to remove the tree stand, all lights, ornaments and decorations, ornament hangers, and the tree bag. Large trees should be cut to 4' lengths so they will fit in the truck. Wreathes and garlands: Securely tie bundled branches and garlands into lengths no more than 4 feet, diameter no more than 4 inches, and weight no more than 40 pounds. Do not use cardboard boxes because they cause a loading problem for the collectors. (Cardboard is recyclable, but should be placed out with paper, glass, metal and plastic items.) You may use 32–oz or smaller plastic bags, but please don't use metal ties. And don't forget to mark ...

A Crofton Village Christmas, the holiday home tour sponsored by Crofton Village Garden Club, will take place on Sunday, December 11, 2011. Six Crofton area residents will open their home to the club and community at large from noon-5 p.m. Here's a sneak peak of what you can expect to see at House #1: 1563 Eton Way, Crofton, Maryland As you step into this expanded split foyer, you may be surprised to see a dining room, rather than a living room, at the top of the stairs. There’s now a sitting area in the Kellahers’ original dining room and, on the other side of French doors, the great room. A giant handmade wreath of fresh greens hangs on the great room window overlooking the golf course, and you’ll find fresh greens with festive bows throughout this “holiday wonderland” in Old Crofton. ...

Several new members of Crofton Village Garden Club got together in late August for an informal workshop hosted by Sunny Frank in her back yard.  Sunny and Bernie Robertson shared basic information about flower preparation with the novice floral designers, and guided them through the creation of three different arrangements. Participants paid for their flowers and containers and brought a bag lunch, so there was no cost to the club.  It was a beautiful way to enjoy the calm before the storm, as Hurricane Irene headed up the coast for arrival the next day.  At least one of the participants was heard saying she had never created her own flower arrangement before, and others were grateful to learn new ideas from some of the best flower designers in the club.   If you're interested in learni...
