Catonsville, MD  Home Residential Resale Statistics - January 2013 Unfortunately, Catonsville's first foray into 2013 did not begin with a bang. Total sales volume decreased from January 2012's $5.9 million to $4.8 million this month, an almost 18% decrease. Though the number of units sold remained the same at 22, the average selling price dipped from $268 thousand to $220 thousand. In addition, homes stayed on the market 13 days longer on average, increasing from 84 to 97. However, this is largely due to three homes taking over 180 days to sell, with one remaining on the market for over two years. Though this wasn't Catonsville's greatest month, it still wasn't too bad, and we can expect activity to pick up as winter begins to rear its head.   The Benjamin Banneker Park and Museum in Maryland almost didn't happen. The largest original African American historical site in the country sat undiscovered  - until an archaeological dig uncovered it in 1985.  The museum was opened to the public in 1998 and is run by the local parks and recreation. So I have now had my Real Estate license for 7 years.  Yes, I got into this business at the wrong time I know but after spending years in the pharmaceutical industry I wanted a career that allowed me more flexibility with my schedule so that I had more time with my kids.  Well I have A LOT of time now!  I have never been so frustrated in my life as I am now.  I have always thought of myself as a go-getter.  I am definitely driven and never take short cuts.  I like to work and actually thrive off of it......so why can't I seem to get going in this industry? Snow Boarding in Baltimore? My new favorite place - Liberty Mountain Resort and Conference Center in PA.Apart from a few random hills, there is no ski resort in Baltimore. Until recently I believed Wisp Resort in Deep Creek to be the closest slopes. (3+ hours from the Metro Baltimore area) Shows what I know!This past Monday in January, Public Schools in Catonsville had a professional day. Despite the freezing rain we bundled up and headed North West to Liberty Mountain Resort and Conference Center. It was a mere hour and 20 minutes and we arrived at the foot of the mountain in Carroll Valley just after 9am. They offer lessons for all skill grades and ages.   The wonderful Mothers Day Out of Westchester is accepting new families for the 2013 Summer and Fall Sessions.  My son really loved his years in preschool at MDOW and the school just keeps getting better!  The director and her staff have added after care which allow more families to get their kids into a program here.Families from all over Catonsville and Columbia bring their toddlers who then "grow up" into the excellent pre school program which gets them ready for kindergarten.  Affordable?  Yep - at $15 for each 3 hour session it makes quality care an easy choice.  The school is offering an open house on Sunday, January 27th so parents can tour the facility, meet the teachers and learn about the available programs. Catonsville, MD  Home Residential Resale Statistics - December 2012 Sales in Catonsville, MD, saw a 9% increase from December 2011 to 2012, rising from $7.9 million to $8.6 million. Compared to last month, the increase was even greater, as November 2012 saw total sales volume of $6.8 million, a $1.8 million difference. Though homes stayed on the market longer than last year (94 days vs. 82) and also, on average, sold for a lower price ($245,000 compared to $254,000), four mores homes were sold, 35 compared to 31 (and 7 more compared to last month's 28). While many cities experienced drops in sales, Catonsville was one of the few bright spots during 2012's last month. Home Residential Resale Statistics -- November2012 Catonsville, MD         Unfortunately for Catonsville, November 2012 was not the city's strongest showing with regards to the real estate market, as sales decreased almost 30%, going from $9.5 million in November 2011 to $6.8 milliom this month. This is largely attributed to a large decrease in homes being sold, with only 28 being sold this November compared to 41 homes in 2011. Though the average selling price inreased 5%, that was not enough to make up for the aforementioned 30% decrease. In addition, homes stayed on the market for 23 days longer on average, though 15 did sell witihn 60 days. Catonsville has a lovely little shopping district on Frederick Road and so I went into Cy's Swim Shop to get some goggles for my little guy.  I was greeted with a smile and very efficient service and got to talking with Karen who is the owners daughter.  It turns out the shop has been a family run business for 72 years! Home Residential Resale Statistics -- October 2012 Catonsville, MD         With an increase of over 16% in total sales volume compared to the same time last year, Catonsville experienced a strong October. 41 total units were sold as compared to 37 last year, and they stayed on the market for an average of 77 days, seven less than October 2011. Civic Pride Alive and Well in Catonsville! The "can do" volunteer spirit is alive and well in Catonsville!  It was in full force the other day as I drove around a traffic circle near Westchester Elementary and Catonsville Middle.  One adult and a few children were digging, planting and watering to beautify the center island.  I actually stopped and admired the work for a few minutes.   They had a sign to encourage the community to drop off plants and bulbs and they would plant them   It was such a cool thing to see - just some local folks who wanted to do their part to improve their neighborhood.That traffic calming circle was really needed - lots of kids cross busy Old Frederick Road to get to school.  Its' construction resulted in much community discussion - mostly from frustrated dri... 11/12/2012
