Looking for a 19th Century Independence Day celebration?  Come join us at Old Sturbridge Village for fun, fireworks and festivities.  General admission is $12 for adults, $10 for OSV members and kids 3 and under are free.  There will be sack races, river boat rides, pie eating contests, live music and more.  Fireworks start at dusk and seating will be open at 7:30PM.  You may bring picnic baskets or eat there, there will be plenty of food choices.  Beer and wine will be sold, but you may not bring in your own alcohol.  Come hear Senator Stephen M. Brewer read the Declaration of Independence.  I'm praying for sunshine...I'm sick of this rain!  Can't wait to see an awesome fireworks show with my kiddos!  Have a happy and safe 4th of July wherever you are celebrating!

For those of you looking for children's clothing, I encourage you to stop by the Children's Crossing store in Sturbridge, MA. Children's Crossing is a used clothing store.  The concept is simple.  If you have gently used, high quality children's clothing that you wish to sell, make an appointment to bring your goods to the store.  The owners will review your items and make you an offer on the pieces they want to purchase for their inventory.  You may take that amount as cash or as store credit. On the shopping end, Children's Crossing offers clothing from newborn up to kids size 12.  Today, they had a 10% off sale, and I found four pairs of pants for my 11-year-old for $18 and change.  One item was a brand-new pair of Land's End jeans.  A steal! The store also buys and sells children's...

Free Ice Cream! My son came home from school today asking that we go to Friendly's on Saturday.  From noon to 5 PM, the well-known ice cream store is holding its annual Free Ice Cream Day, and the Friendly's in Sturbridge is indeed participating.  Friendly's is offering a free single scoop of ice cream in a cone or dish.  Perfect for an after-baseball or softball treat. We've never attended this event, so I can not offer any tips on the best times to go, but the weather report looks perfect for an afternoon ice cream break.  Check the Friendly's web site to make sure your local Friendly's is offering this special to your community.   Enjoy!   - Kathryn Acciari, REALTOR® Sturbridge, Massachusetts Search for Homes

Following is a copy of a post that I wrote on Newsotronic: It pains me to learn of the parking disagreement that has developed between Rovezzi's and Mass Motion Dance Academy.  As a teacher at Mass Motion, and a patron of Rovezzi's, I strongly believe that these two institutions are anchors in Sturbridge's business sector.  Mass Motion has served hundreds, if not thousands, of families for several decades, providing professional dance training and performing opportunities for children of all ages.   Rovezzi's offers our community a warm and jovial setting for its top-rate gourmet dining.  The secret to both businesses' success is, I believe, due to the high return rate of their happy customers. In the shadow of the financial issues involved, one factor that seems to have been overlooked...

For those of you who miss the snow, here is a video I made of our snowstorm of March 2, 2009. We had over a foot of snow overnight, and another 3-4 inches later that day. This video was filmed at around 6 AM. No plow had been down the road yet, so I was able to make first tracks! All of that has melted now, of course, as spring starts to peek out around us. This was probably the last storm of the season. I hope you enjoy it.

After five years of living in this neighborhood, the sunrise remains one of my greatest delights.  The early timing of dawn in the spring brings us not only longer days, but more spectacular colors and light each morning.  In this photo, the sun has just popped over the crest of the hills to the east of Sturbridge.  It's my pleasure to share this wonderful scene with you.     -Kathryn Acciari     Sunrise on Tannery Road, Sturbridge, MA Photo copyright 2009, Kathryn Acciari   If you are looking for more information about Sturbridge, MA, you can: 1.  Click on the links to the right to see more of my blog entries; or 2.  Visit my Sturbridge web site at:  http://www.askmeaboutsturbridge.com Kathryn Acciari is a REALTOR who lives in Sturbridge, MA.  She would love to answer your questions,...

Well it is with great admiration and gratitude that I have the pleasure of wishing my Gram a happy 100th Birthday!  Not only has she survived the ups and downs of a century but she has done so with great humor and zest for life.  She is an independent lady who shares my love of horses, dogs,a stiff drink ,  a good joke, spelling, and Johnny Carson.  Happy Birthday Gram and God Bless! After the two snow storms the weekend of January 16, 2009, I went outside to capture some of the beautiful scenery on the street.  Below are a few photos of Tannery Road that I hope you will enjoy. Snow-Covered House and Pines You have to act quickly to snap photos of this pristine beauty.  When the land was first being cleared, the developer maintained many of the natural plantings on each lot.  This has resulted in a setting that is more natural than many other new neighborhoods.     Clearing the Snow The snow blowers were buzzing all afternoon as residents cleared their driveways and sidewalks.                       Street Lamps Even the streetlights were topped with fluff.  The original lamps were hand-crafted by an independent, local tinsmith, and when one is in need of repair, the...

Snow Days in Sturbridge, MA   We are having a wonderful old-fashioned winter here in New England.  This is the type of winter I remember from my childhood, and the type of season I have long been awaiting.  The kids have had several snow days from school already, and it looks like more storms are on the way.  Time for some outdoor fun! Here is my quick list of things to do and places to go that will help make winter more bearable: 1.  Sledding (or sliding).  There are two main areas where people sled around here.  First is at Burgess Elementary School.  Burgess has two hills.  The north hill is known for its progressive level of steepness.  One end of the hill is fairly short and mild, and the other end is for extreme speed lovers.  But there is a lesser-known hill past the south end of...

Currently there are 110 single family homes for sale in the town of Sturbridge.  The prices range from $84,000 to $685,000 with the average list price being $331,326 and the average days on market being 194.50.  13 homes are currently under contract (not included in the 110 homes still for sale).  32 homes have sold in Sturbridge in the past 6 months ranging in price from $135,000 to $534,750.  The average sale price was $338,828 and the average days on market was 137.28.  What does all of this mean for Sturbridge?  This means that only about 1/3 of the inventory has sold in 6 months and homes are still coming on the market much faster than they are selling.  This will still cause the values to be stable or lower than average, but making it a great time for buyers.  If you are thinking...
