Ormond Plantation in Destrehan, Early West Indes Style Plantation 1790!     Ormond Plantation  was completed shortly before 1790 and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. d'Trepagnier and their children. d'Trepagnier began growing indigo, and then sugar cane, and the Plantation began to prosper.  At the time Louisiana was under Spanish Rule.  It has been owned by a lot of different families over its 220 year history.     The house is built in the "Louisiana Colonial" style for plantations, which is modeled after the great sugar plantations of the West Indies.  It is on the Mississippi River upriver from New Orleans in Destrehan in St. Charles Parish.  The levee did not exist  in those days so the Mississippi River was in the front yard.  The plantations were built on high ground and when the river d... 10/09/2010

Subject: 2009 Crime Report - St. Charles Parish Message: Crime statistics in St. Charles Parish for 2009 present a mixed picture. Crime decreased in 5 of the 7 F.B.I. Uniform Crime Reporting categories during last year including murder, rape, robbery, burglary and auto theft. Crime increased in 2 of the 7 categories including thefts and assaults. There was one homicide in 2009 compared to 4 in 2008 – a 75% reduction. There were 12 reported rapes in 2009 – compared to 14 in 2008 – 14% decrease. Robberies fell from 31 to 23 in 2009 – a 25% reduction Burglaries went from 434 in 2008 to 425 in 2009 – a 2% reduction. Auto thefts fell from 103 to 85 in 2009, a decrease of 21%. It's getting to be that Time of Year   I am starting to see to see the signs of Fall and the upcoming holiday season. If you go to Home Depot, Sams or Wal-Mart just take a look around. In addition, I am seeing more homes decorated in Destrehan LA for Holloween. Close to Destrehan there is a pumpkin patch farm. The St. Charles Parish Government, in my opinion is the most progressive government in the Greater New Orleans. Before Hurricane Gustav the parish would post local information and events using www.youtube.com. Just today the video posted help calm my wife nerves on the condition of our home. St. Charles Parish Library It has been some time since I visited a public library. One recent visit and a first to the St. Charles Parish Library surprise me with their offerings. The parish public library offers a large amount of upcoming events to include a movie night for teens and a Wii competition. In addition to a large amount of computers for public use there is a wireless zone. St. Charles Parish Waterworks Resident of St. Charles Parish are now able to pay their waterbill online. I have been waiting and certainly glad the Water Department is final current when it come to customers having the ability of paying their bill on line.
