Dorrington Blvd Old Metairie Homes Between Metairie Road and Rail Road Tracks      A very interesting street in Old Metairie. There is a large variety of homes. Historic homes and newer homes that were built to look old. This is an area that has had a lot of tear downs over time. People then build what they like. You will see original homes and cottages and then the newer homes that were build.      Most of the streets are like this between Metairie Road and the rail road tracks. The lots are a little larger so the tear downs do work well in these areas. Always amazed with the variety of the newer homes. You will see several old homes that have added additions on to the homes. This is a common practice on raised cottages in this area of Old Metairie.      You never see a lot of Old Met...

Metairie Towers Condos 401 Metairie Road, Old Metairie 70005“Metairie Towers Blog”       Metairie Towers is a very popular condo association which has 219 units in the seven story building. All the units have parking in the lot.  All the units are on one level. Elevators to all floors and sides. The 24 hour security desk is a plus. There is a lending library and nice lobby for the residents. It has become a very popular place for retired residents. The pool and courtyard are in rear of the building.       The one bedroom units are about 800 sq. ft. of living. The two bedroom and two bath units are 1200 sq.ft and 1600 sq. ft. I think the larger two bedroom units are where people combined two one bedroom units togeather to make them a lot larger.       The condo fees are higher than norma...

Old Metairie Homes and Mansions Northline Street with Large Neutral Grounds These Homes look like Mansions         This is a great neighborhood in Old Metairie near the Country Club and Gold Course. Large homes that can easily be called Mansions since they are large and unique. There are few homes like this in other areas of Old Metairie. The Northline Street has large trees and a great Neutral Ground with plants and paths. This area is close to New Orleans..All these homes have large yards and all are worth more than a million dollars. It is a great area to walk around and walk to the tennis courts at the Metairie Country Club.        I walked the area to take the photos of several streets in this neighborhood. All the homes have recent updates that make them look like historic Mansio...

This spring the Metairie housing market continues to reflect most of the trends that have held sway across much of the nation. There is good news, not-so-good news, and (happy to report) no really bad news at all.In fact, it’s the absence of threatening factors that makes our housing market a welcoming one for those looking to buy or sell in Metairie this spring or summer. Here’s the brief run-down::: View New Orleans Homes Now :: View Metairie Homes Now :: View Lakeview Homes Now :: Prices: look as if they will continue to trend higher, but more slowly than they have for the past couple of years. The consensus of expert opinion calls national average residential prices to climb 4%+, which is about 1%-2% more slowly than in 2015. Of course, every Metairie property (and neighborhood, for ...

For most of the United States, this weekend sees the return of clock confusion—and heated debate. Many Americans will spring forward an hour to mark the beginning of daylight savings time (DST)—also known as daylight saving time. At 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 13. Time will fall back to standard time again on Sunday, November 6, when DST ends. The annual adventure in altered timekeeping has produced some entertaining and exasperating situations over the past century. Here are some strange-but-true facts you might not know about daylight savings time.   1. It’s “daylight saving time,” not “daylight savings time.” Often mistakenly called daylight savings time, its official name in the U.S. is Daylight Saving Time.In European countries, it is called Summer Time.  2. Though in favor of maximizin...

Play Chess...Not Checkers Even though the objective of Chess is simply laid out — obtain the other player’s King — the process in which to obtain this goal is much more strategic. Chess requires a greater understanding of the ability of each of the 9 different pieces on the board and a risk assessment that takes longer than a simple scan of the board. “It’s a game in which the winning strategy is dynamic and requires complex thought across many turns, both for the player and their opponent’s turns.  Chess requires a player to understand the context behind the moves on the board rather than just the risks offered by each individual turn.” – Play Chess Not Checkers by Zach West You may have heard the saying, “Play Chess, Not Checkers” before, but how does this apply to real estate?Plan p...

CoreLogic’s latest Equity Report revealed that 256,000 properties regained equity in the third quarter of 2015. This is great news for the country, as 92% of all mortgaged properties are now in a positive equity situation.Price Appreciation = Good News For HomeownersFrank Nothaft, CoreLogic’s Chief Economist, explains:“Home price growth continued to lift borrower equity positions and increase the number of borrowers with sufficient equity to participate in the mortgage market. In the last three years, borrowers with at least 20 percent equity have increased by 11 million, a substantial uptick that is driving rapid growth in home equity originations.”Anand Nallathambi, President and CEO of CoreLogic, believes this is a great sign for the market in 2016 as well, as he had this to say:“Hom...

You’d think that the single most influential factor governing a potential Metairie home buyer’s decision on whether to buy now or hold off would be the ongoing bottom line—that is, the amount of an anticipated monthly mortgage payment.Maybe not. The New York Federal Reserve argues otherwise. Not just a little bit otherwise; “dramatically” otherwise. To cut to the chase (and that’s a good idea, for reasons that we’ll get to later), what is more likely to impact that decision—especially for those who are currently renters—is the size of the down payment. It follows that Metairie home renters are more likely to be encouraged by any relaxation of down payment requirements than they are to be discouraged by a rise in mortgage interest rates (with the resulting increase in the monthly payment)....
