Soccer fever has hit the Bluegrass! Although the 2014 World Cup may have not played out like most USA fans would have liked, soccer fans all over the city are still in their full soccer craze. What makes this even better? The city has recently announced their plans for Louisville's own professional team!   The Louisville City Football Club will begin their premier season in March of 2015. The team franchise will be renting space from the Louisville Bats and playing their home games on Slugger Field, in downtown Louisville. Mayor Greg Fischer recently announced that over $580,000 of next year's budget will be used towards the creation of a permanent office and facility for the team. This looks like the beginning of a great new past time for the people of Louisville!   The Coopers, Louis...

The Thomas Group of Keller Williams Realty Louisville East will begin marketing a new listing today in Parkway Village, which is located "on the other side" of Eastern Parkway from what is traditionally considered Louisville's ecclectic neighborhood of Germantown.  Lots of things are changing in these neighborhoods as Louisville Home Buyers seek an affordable charming alternative to the pricier Highlands.  Germantown's transformation has been steady over the past few years as renovation and restoration of its homes and businesses has wrought a vibrant community.  That's not to say everything in Germantown is perfect, as one resident I spoke with yesterday will attest that not all of the change has been good, but with change comes disappointment about how things aren't how they always w...

As someone who sells a number of ranch homes in Louisville, I was interested in a recent article in Realtor® Magazine that discusses the "return of the ranch." This classic American style home may have fallen out of vogue with buyers and builders for time, but ranches have served many families for years. Now they are more sought after than ever before. The History of The Ranch Home Ranches, which became popular in the 50s 60s and 70s, took their design clues from American Spanish architecture in the 17th to 19th century. Often characterized by one-story construction with low roofs, wide eaves, interior courtyards, and large front porches, ranches were very common in southwestern states. After World War II, they lost their rustic styling and became the classic tract home - the very "litt...

If you are like many homeowners, your Memorial Day weekend involves parades, BBQ, and lawn care. You might have started your weeding and fertilizing efforts weeks ago, but if not, the three day weekend is a good opportunity to get the lawn in shape through hard work and chemicals. Unfortunately, this springtime ritual of using pesticides has many downsides.  Problems With Pesticides  Your lawn cannot absorb all the chemical input, so 40 to 60% of the nitrogen in the product runs off in surface water or ultimately leaches into the ground. You can do the math, but Americans apply million tons of fertilizer and 70 to 90,000,000 tons of pesticides to their lawns each year, which means widespread exposure to chemicals.  While some people are very sensitive to these chemicals and develop alle...

Every time the economy gets bad, the size of new homes goes down a bit. Once the economy improves, we seem to  creep upwards in our preferences again. According to the National Association of Home Builders, the average house built in 2013 was 2,679 square feet, an increase of 160 square feet from 2012. Trends about where people want the space distributed in a home have changed, however, even as the overall varies. Even for those looking to buy a an existing home instead of new construction want a home that is laid out to accommodate their own lifestyle and the size of their family.    What Ikea Found Americans Want    As a study by Swedish retailer IKEA pointed out, people want space where they spend time in the home. Having extra rooms for special uses is not as important as having ro...
