Have you been to The Blind Pig and Meat Bar Louisville?  Hopefully your answer was ‘yes’ because if you haven’t, you’re really missing out in my opinion.  Located in Historic Butchertown at 1076 E. Washington St. Louisville KY 40206, just on the outskirts of Downtown Louisville, the downstairs gastropub and upstairs Prohibition Era Bar are one of the finest one-two combos in the city of Louisville.  Meat Bar Louisville opened in 2011 and serves a variety of cocktails and seasonal drinks that vary with the Kentucky weather.  Staying true to their location and vibe, they incorporate Kentucky Bourbons and other spirits that really transport you back in time.  I liken it to being in an episode ofMad Men for those of you who have never been.  I’ve never had a cocktail here that I didn’t thin...

As a Realtor® in Northwest Louisville, Butchertown is one of my favorite neighborhoods. With a long history rooted in grist milling and the industry that named it - hog processing - Butchertown is currently a vibrant neighborhood where you can find a great housing value. The neighborhood is just east of downtown and bounded by the Ohio River to the north, Interstate 65 to the West, Main St. to the south. and Millwood Ave. and Beargrass Creek to the east. Although Butchertown was established in 1796, when a grist mill was set up there, it became urbanized with the arrival of German settlers in 1827. Many became butchers, a trade relegated to the outside of town. The area, situated along a major Turnpike (present day Frankfurt and Story Avenues) and Beargrass Creek, was perfect for proces...

Butchertown has some of the oldest surviving structures in Louisville with its first house dating back to the 1780’s.  Many of the 19th century homes and buildings can still be found intact in the area.  The neighborhood was hard hit by the 1937 flood which led to the construction of a floodwall that can still be seen running down the middle of some streets today. Butchertown gets its name from the large meatpacking plants that moved into the area at the end of the nineteenth century.  These establishments were eventually banned from the downtown area because of sanitation reasons and concentrated into the area now known as Butchertown. Today, Butchertown is home to many young professionals and longtime family residents.  AOL included Butchertown in its Hot New Neighborhoods list in 201...

Louisville Gaines Real Estate has a new website! Just made live at http://louisvillegainesrealestate.com/, this beautiful site created by Sierra Interactive shows off the Possibility City of Louisville and shows off the possibilities it offers for everyone who wants to buy or sell a home here! As the principle broker at a growing firm, I wanted my new site to be easy to use and make you confident that I am interested in working with you as you achieve your real estate dreams. My home page presents a few shots of the city. With so many interesting scenes to present, it was a hard choice to capture the essence of Louisville in a just a handful of pictures, so I picked a few that showed the history, the architecture, the fun, and the beauty of the city. But why do you come to a website? T...

If your idea of a great time is to take in some historic Louisville architecture, enjoy interesting shopping, and conclude the day with the best food and drink in Louisville, then you should head to the Butchertown Market.  Right across from the Swift Company, Butchertown Market is one of things that make Butchertown one of AOL's hottest neighborhoods. Housed in an old leather tanning factory which in turn housed the  Magic Flake Soap Company, the Lampton Paint Company and then the Caudill Seed Company, the building at 1201 Story Avenue was bought by the Jakeland company in 1997.  Under the skillful hand of Andy Blieden , who loves to find and renovate old buildings and turn them green, the Market houses retail, office space, and light industrial space, plus has a restaurant across the...

There was a time in Butchertown history when a large part of the pedestrian traffic down Story Avenue was the hogs enroute to the processing plant.  Meat packing gave the neighborhood its name, but in recent years, the residents and visitors who patronize the restaurants and galleries in the neighborhood don't like the noise and odors emanating from the plant.  For over 10 years, the company, JBS Swift, and the Butchertown Neighborhood Association have been at odds. In 2009, the Association asked Swift to stop making some improvements, including building a hog chute to facilitate moving the 10,000 hogs slaughtered each day into the plant.  Previously, many animals fell and broke their legs while being herded into the plant from trucks and had to be destroyed; the chute was intended to b...

(Dave Halpern Real Estate Agent, Inc., Louisville, KY (502) 664-7827)
What is a short sale? When the lender accepts an amount SHORT of the amount owed. What's the process? The lender requires the house to be listed with a Realtor who specializes in short sales. The Realtor procures a buyer who makes an offer. Once the offer is accepted by the seller, the Realtor presents it to the foreclosing lender with additional required documentation. Once the short sale offer is accepted by the lender, the buyer closes on the house. Who pays the Realtor commission? The short sale lender pays the Realtor's commission so the seller doesn't have to. Thousands of homeowners in Louisville lose their home to foreclosure because they do not try the short sale option. Please call Dave Halpern at any time for further information.
