SHIPSHEWANA-is located in the north western section of LaGrange County.  It was incorporated in 1916 and the town was named for Chief Shipshewana of the Potawatomi tribe that lived in the area. Shipsheweana has a strong religious history.  The first settlement of Amish came to the area from Pennsylvania in 1844-many demoninations have settled in and around the area. The population is about 540, with a police department and volunteer fire department.  Students attend Shipshewana-Scott Elementary School and Meadowview Elementary while the 5th through 12th grades attend Westview Junior and Senior High School.
