      Indiana State Soldiers' Home   Commandant's House         The Indiana State Soldiers' Home, also known as the Indiana Veterans' Home is just north of West Lafayette on Soldiers' Home Road, or off Highway 43 North. The Commandant's House was built in the original complex and is in the center between the old Administration Building and the original library which has both been closed long ago and are in a state of neglect. This view is from the south side of the Commandant's House and it still has a useful life ahead of it, even though it hasn't been used in an official capacity for decades.         10/06/2014

  Indiana State Soldiers' Home   West Lafayette, Indiana   The Commandant's House     The Indiana State Soldiers Home, also known as the Indiana State Veterans Home, is just north of West Lafayette, Indiana and sits on over 150 acres of forest preserve land heavily laden with majestic oak trees and sugar maples. This is one of the remaining original structures, The Commandant's Home, when the complex was built in 1896 to care for the aging Civil War Veterans from the Union Army who lived in Indiana. Two statues of Union soldiers still stand their post even though the Soldier's Home Commandant's House has not been used in an official capacity for decades.             10/05/2014

      Standing the Post   The Commandant's House    The Indiana Veterans Home West Lafayette, Indiana     Although the original complex of the Indiana Soldiers Home has fallen into disrepair, efforts were made to save the Commandant's House.    Two soldiers who flank both sides of the front porch of the Commandant's House have stood the post for decades, much like successive generations of Hoosiers have in serving America.    The soldiers are attired in Civil War Union dress as the Indiana Soldiers Home was built in 1896 to care for the aging Hoosier Civil War veterans.       Tippecanoe County Football Results Week 5   Harrison Raiders  45       Anderson Indians   0   Four of the five Tippecanoe County teams won on Friday night and the Harrison Raiders were one of the victors with a convincing shutout over Anderson  45-0. The Raiders have now won three straight games, all North Central Conference victories, after snapping a 38 game losing streak during week three of the IHSAA 2014 season.  The Harrison Raiders and McCutcheon Mavericks are running roughshod over North Central Conference opponents in their inaugural campaign in the conference, and have a combined 6-0 perfect record with a big showdown against each other in two weeks!!!!   09/20/2014

      Tippecanoe County Football Results Week 5   West Lafayette Red Devils  55      Tipton Blue Devils  0   The #5 Class 3A Red Devils scortched the Tipton Blue Devils 55-0 for a  home coming win at Straley Field in West Lafayette.  West Lafayette threw a balanced running and passing attack and built a 49-0 halftime lead over the Blue Devils and never looked back as the reserves racked up valuable playing time for West Lafayette.  West Lafayette improved to 4-1 on the 2014 IHSAA football season with its only loss to Class 5A #5 ranked McCutcheon.  Tipton falls to 2-3, but continutes to improve.   Purdue University Memorial Mall    Tree Toppers     The Purdue University Memorial Mall in West Lafayette is just west of the two most visited buildings by students:  The Purdue Memorial Union and the Library.  The Memorial Mall is a wonderful green space for students to study or relax in the sun or shade amid the beauty of the carefully manicured grounds. The steeple is part of University Hall one of the oldest buildings on campus and my favorite building on the Purdue Campus in West Lafayette, as it was home to the History Department! 08/05/2014

    Purdue University Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts   Silver Bow   Silver Bow is an equine statue made of vines and is located at the south east portion of the Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts.  This work of art appears to be grazing on native grass, and is located just east of the Brickhead Conversations works of art.   08/04/2014

    Purdue University Pao Hall Brickhead Conversations   On the south entrance to the Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts Center at the Purdue University Campus is a striking pair of masonry statues titled, BRICKHEAD CONVERSATIONS.  They are separated by a small plaza encircled with limestone bench seating and when you get close to the statues you can hear the sound of BIRDS chirping inside the brickheads.   Golly, is the artist saying that we are birdbrains????   Disclosure:  The author of this blog did NOT major in art at Purdue University so absolutely ignore any attempts at artistic interpretations made here in this post.  (What do you expect from  someone who earned majors and minors in:  US History, Health Eductation, Physical Education, Economics, and Drivers Education???)   I... 08/03/2014

    Purdue University Brickhead Conversations   On the south side of the Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts Building is a very interesting work of art called "Brickhead Conversations".  It is quite striking.    As you sit down around the brickhead on the limestone seating you hear sounds.   You look around in the trees and then the ornamental grass.     You hear the sound again but it is not coming from the trees as you would expect, the sounds are coming from within the work of art.   Then you realize that the sound of chirping birds is coming within the brick head.     Tomorrow I will show who the Brickhead is conversing with.   Do you feel like you are banging your head against a brick wall trying to find a West Lafayette home for sale near Purdue University for your son or daugh... 08/02/2014
