I'm heading up to Mishawaka to hang out with my mom and of course...so I can watch the Race.  It is blacked out here in Indy.  I love seeing it live and in person...but the traffic, huge crowds and heat keep me away these days. Trivia Time...I'll post the question, then a picture, then the answers...see how you do? What is the number of the most cars still racing as the race finishes? What is the fewest? Who has had the most career starts? What was the closest race and who were the racers? What rookie won in 2001?  Dario drinking the milk in the winner's circle.  Here are the answers to the questions above (drum roll please): In 1911, there were 26 In 1966, there were 7 That would be A.J. Foyt Jr with 35 The closest race was won by .043 seconds with Al Unser Jr beating Scott Goodyear Th...

Improvements to the 68-year-old Geist dam are nearing completion. Large concrete blocks have been placed on top of the existing slope to prevent erosion, as well as a fresh layer of asphalt and new fencing has been installed on top of the dam. The restoration project, in the heart of the Feather Cove neighborhood, has taken more than a year to complete. Looking to sell or buy a home in the Geist area? Originally posted at My IndyWaterfront Blog Spring has arrived.  As a result many Geist homeowners will consider whether to renovate their existing home or buy a new home in Geist. Renovations are always good news.  If you don't move you will enjoy the new look and feel of your home.  If you eventually move it will increase the resale value of your home. The question is how much! Let me give you some examples of renovation costs and returns in the Geist/Indianapolis area.  If you were to make a bedroom in the attic and spend $50,000 or so you could expect a 71% return.  A major kitchen remodel (this would include cabinets, flooring, appliances and countertops) would be about $60,000 and would return about 60%.  I've included a picture my kitchen after it was remodeled. Renovation or rem...

They say the Indianapolis 500 Race is the greatest spectacle in Racing…but did you know these fun facts? The Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) covers 253 acres and if all the seats were laid end to end; they would cover nearly 100 miles.  The number of hot dogs sold would circle the 2.5 mile oval more than twice!  Do you think bratwurst would be more or less than that? Coca-Cola sold over 16,000 gallons in 2009 which was actually less than what Miller Lite sold (no surprise there!).  Fries appear to be quite the big seller also, with over 10,000 pounds (the average weight of an elephant) sold.  Another big seller is the chicken tenders that sold more than 2,000 pounds, equal to 13 Borg-Warner trophies! Did you know that the Motor Speedway offers bus tours that take you on a lap of the S...

I knew Indiana's FIRST EVER Lego Store that recently opened in the Indianapolis Castleton Square Mall was a big deal.  Mostly because my nephews told me it was.  But I didn't realize how BIG a deal until I saw with my own eyes the line of families waiting outside the Indianapolis Lego store for their turn to browse bazillions of small plastic pieces just begging to be transformed into a Death Star or Hogwarts Express. Or, as I just found out today, they may have been waiting for their chance to snap up one of the free Lego sets offered to the first 250 children under the age of 14 on the first Tuesday of the month! Either way, the sleekly designed store with play tables and fun displays is worth a visit - or maybe just a peek inside if the line's too long! The Castleton Lego store in In...

If you are behind on your Indianapolis Real Estate, an Indianapolis IN Short Sale is something to consider.  A short sale is when a bank or mortgage lender agrees to take less than the mortgage balance owing due to an economic hardship on the part of the mortgagor. The home owner/debtor sells the mortgaged property for less than the outstanding balance of the loan, and turns over the proceeds of the sale to the lender. In this situation, the lender would have the right to approve or deny the proposed sale.Extenuating circumstances influence whether or not banks will allow an Indianapolis Short Sale. These circumstances are usually related to an individual borrower's financial situation.A short sale typically is executed to prevent a home from fully going through to foreclosure. Often a ...

Originally posted at My Indy Waterfront Blog The Metropolitian Indianapolis Board of Realtors (MIBOR) has recently released their 1st Quarter Data.  The report shows that the first quarter of 2011 was 10.9% lower in homes sold from a year ago; keep in mind the First Time Buyer credit was available in the first quarter of 2010. They assemble the report by County; so let me give you both Lawrence Township (Marion County) data and Hamilton County Data since Geist Real Estate crosses both counties. Marion County was actually down 18.7% (so more than overall of 10.9%) and the average sale price was down 1.8%.  We currently have an absorption rate or inventory of just over 9 months.  A seller's market is at 5 months; so still heavily weighted towards buyers. Hamilton County was down 9.4% in h...

As Spring approaches you may put your Geist home for sale or you may decide to renovate and stay a little longer.  If you want to just freshen it with some paint, I just wrote a post in the Carmel Real Estate blog on this. Renovations are tricky, how much and which rooms are always at the top of the question list.  As a general rule, kitchens, baths and backyards sell houses.  If you are on a higher end price point, a "to die" for basement helps too! Try to work smart.  For example, if you hate your cabinets, don't throw them out; think about either resurfacing/painting them or just getting new cabinet doors.  Sometimes just changing the hardware on the door fronts can give a new look. Another kitchen favorite is to remove the old lighting in the bulkhead (or remove the whole bulkhead) ...

I discovered a new place in Indy and wanted to share it with you!  On a field trip last week to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, our school stopped off at the Rhythym! Discover Center.  Located at 110 W Washington Street, right down the street from the IRT, is this hidden gem.  If you love music, this is a great place to visit to experience ways in which percussion and rhythms influence music accross the globe.  There are interactive exhibits where you can try instruments - including two sound proof rooms for those with inner-rock star dreams to go crazy on the drums. My favorite part of the group tour we had for the field trip was the "drum circle".  The tour guide ( who also seemed well versed in playing most everything he showed us) played Conductor to our group of 70 ish kids...
